They will contact your family, friends, and anyone's numbers that they can get that know you, then tell those people you are being taken to jail, that they are trying to serve you with papers,  and that the person should be nice and help them out... when they did that to my mother in law it freaked her out and she called me and then my nightmare began...
2 months I have been told I am going to jail, the cops are coming, nothing, I finally contacted a local consumer lawyer after way to many of my rights have been infringed, and even after a C&D letter from the lawyer they still call so off to court we will be going but on my terms.
DO not let these people scare you, stand up for yourself and let's put this junk debt buyer out of business!!! scum of the earth!!

Recorded message saying they were Michael Jones from CMAG and if I didn't call by tomorrow they were taking legal action (I've been receiving these calls for months). I have no outstanding debts and have never received a letter from these people. The caller ID is spoofed as well--it comes up differently each time, but this time it said "Anaheim CA 657-999-6090".

FTC just sued a large group of collection agencies located in the city of Corona, alleging numerous violations of debt collection laws.
