The person on the other end sounded far, far away. I asked him to hold one moment as I was on another line.  He said, "Yes." However, less than 15 seconds later he had hung up.  When I called the number I got a recording that said, "The number you have called is unavailable at this time."  Same recording on a second try.  I suspect it is some sort of scam!

I received a call from  1-888-580-9001 and a woman claimed to be from Windstream offering an Identity Package for it's customers. I hung up and called Windstream to ask if they recognized this phone number and they said, "NO"....
Beware, do not give out any information...Find out for yourselves....Scammers are everywhere just waiting for you to give your information out.

I just got a call from this number and experienced the same story as the above people.  Why cant this number be traced?

Usually when Windstream calls me, it will show Windstream on the Caller ID and then the number. The fact that this number didn't show anything raised a red flag.

Well speak of the devil, they just called again and didn't leave a message. I quit answering calls that I don't recognize.

I do exactly the same thing - I never answer a call that's not identified, and seldom answer the ones that are....

The number has called twice in the last week.  We never answer, and there is never any message.  We have our answering machine greeting set up in Greek now, so that it discourages a lot of unknown callers. People we are expecting to call know to expect the greeting.  We are going to block this number, since they do not seem to get the idea.  William is right; the best policy is never to answer an unidentified call, and don't answer the identified ones unless you expected a call from them.  These days, it is possible to put a false ID on the caller ID.
