Called my mom (Why dont you have my number). I called back and they claimed I had a debt from 2004 and had a lien on my car. Had all of my information including address, social etc. (creepy). Person was super rude. If you're gonna come after someone and get them to respond be professional. Get your facts together and learn that you cant threaten people with liens or taking peoples property under the statute of limitations.

The Statute of Limitations does not cover "liens or taking peoples property".  It simply tells you how long you have to sue.  Liens cannot be put on personal property unless they go to court, win their case and then obtain a judgement.

They could not legally sue you in any state for a debt that old.

Whenever someone tells you that they are a "lawyer" or that they work for a lawyer or law firm, the first question you should ask is what state(s) they are registered in and their BAR number for that/those state(s).  Then go to that state and check them out, contact them directly using the information in the state registration, as these crooks have been known to research real law firm names and attorney names and impersonate them.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

We got a call both on house phone and cell phone.  Said my Fiancé needed to be home for court summons from the state of NH where we use to live.  Thinking it's a scam also.  We didn't call the 888 number.

On Friday, September 25th I got a voicemail on my cell phone saying if I did not call them back at 888-589-1822 they would personally serve me at my home with a summons. They also left a bogus case number in the voicemail which didn't come up with any results when I searched for it. I didn't call back. Today is Monday Sept 28th and I haven't been served.  I will update this message board if I am ever served. I doubt it. I have some old, minor credit card debt that is past the statute of limitations so I'm guessing that a new debt collector has recently purchased the debt for pennies on the dollar.

I just received a call from these people. Saying I would be served with legal document to my home/work. Called both my cell and home #. Not sure who they really are but I will not be calling them back. I'll wait to be served. The caller identified herself as Beth Woods.

They called and claimed to be an employee of the State and that I was being sued, citing a court case from 2020. COMPLETELY FALSE information. They aren't a state employee (but I am), and there is no one suing me. They spoofed a phone number as well...but provided a different number for me to call...this 888-589-1822 number. Lots of questionable/illegal behavior on their part.
