- Jonathan| 1 replyClaiming to be Walberg Silverman law firm and that we were being sewed. I googled the firm and nothing came up except a scam site with the same type of calls. Even the case number was bogus.

- WolfmanJack replies to JonathanThis is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, etc. all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php - CWG40ID themselves as (garbled) litigation service. Just another debt scammer, seems to me.

- ls72called saying they were from Weiss & Shapiro Law Firm. they not only called my cell they called my work # as well. When I called back they did not identify themselves. when told I googled the company they had no response. Claims I owe money with US Bank. A debt from almost 20 years ago. Debt can no longer be collected on and I settled all issues with US Bank more than 5 years ago when I reopened an acct with them. The person tried to tell me I was lying. I asked them to remove my work number from their system as it can cost me my job. They said they have attempted to contact me several times and were threatening to file legal documents against me. Funny first time I've heard of it.

- nshamblinGot a phone call from an unknown number. Asked if I could receive a complaints and summons for my boyfriend. I said sure and asked what it was concerning. They said Weiss and Shapiro Associates were trying to serve him. Told me a sheriff would be by the tomorrow with the summons or I could call this 800# to see what it was regarding. 1-888-589-4511
Called the number some "man" I use that term loosely answered and told me it was regarding a Kays credit card he opened over 7 years ago. That they were going to freeze his bank accounts and garnish his wages. I asked what was owed on said account and he told me 2700 something but if I could make a one time payment he could waive the court fees and such for $801. I told him I'd call back which I did and told him to serve the papers this was not between me and him and I was not paying any debt they just claimed he owed. I then asked to be sent original papers showing said debt which he told me he couldn't then he started saying such things as your boyfriend has no balls, blah blah, blah. So I hung up after telling him to not contact me again. He called back this time I told him I was recording his call and he told me he did not care continuing to go on about my boyfriend having no balls and not being a man. I have it all on recording they are very unprofessional in trying to collect debt. Honestly I don't know if said debt is owed as my boyfriend wasn't even here. So he talked to me about an account that I am not on then harassed me. After again telling him if he called me one more time I would hire an attorney for harassment he hung up.- Caller: Weiss Shipero Associates

- WB| 3 repliesI was ambushed by these people at work about a 10 year old US Bank debt. Like an idiot I paid off half of what they were strong arming me for on my credit card because they were saying the sheriff was going to deliver papers to me that day but they wanted to give me a chance to settle it. I soon realized something was fishy so I had that card deactivated. Well, today they called me again looking for the other half since they tried to run the card again and it came back insufficient.
The credit card was run by someone called "Watson Smith And Associates". Their address is a UPS Store. The litigation firm that is "helping" me is Weiss Shapiro & Associates, who send shoddy-looking legal documents via .pdf file to my email using the email address WEISS-SHAPIRO@mail.com.
When I asked the woman at Weiss Shapiro on the phone about who Watson Smith was, she said Watson Smith owned my debt but there is never any mention of Watson Smith on the shoddy paperwork, and I was given a number for US Bank to confirm my debt.
I again asked for paper documentation to be sent to me (and ironically they have the wrong address for me on the legalesque-looking document) and they said they had (they had not) and I said I was going to mail them a payment.- Caller: Weiss Shapiro

- William replies to WB| 1 replyYou can challenge the payment you already made by notifying your credit card issuer.
Fraud is fraud - and it is up to the bank to investigate the card processor that is doing business with that fraudulent debt collection company. - UO DUCKFANS| 5 repliesMy wife (work phone) My mother - in Law and our home was called this morning. - B. Edwards replies to msladykillaShill, shill and more shill. And as dull and unconvincing as it possible for a shill to get.
- U.R.Fullofit replies to msladykillaAmazing how you just "forgot" you owed a company almost $5000!! Instead of buying fancy jewelry you should just PAY YOUR BILLS - and by the way - SHILL ALERT!!
- Caitlin replies to KyleThis isn't a real company; they are scammers trying to scare people and take their money.
Depending on how your parents/grandparents paid, if it was on a credit card or debit card, for credit cards they need to call the number on the back of the card, dispute the charges and cancel the card immediately. If it was debit, same deal, but also get a new number for the bank account or just close it completely and make a new one. That latter happened to me (not from a phone scam); in my case I had to change the account number. Sorry this happened to your family. That sucks. - kelly pinkter replies to UO DUCKFANSactually if your trying to find out about a debt you owe and its been over 180 days they sell the debt and you have to call the recovery debt the bank tellers would know about it. you should call them
