- Jaklynn| 1 replyPerson called 18 times today and left SIX messages SCREAMING on my answering machine looking for the previous tenant of the house we rent (Alex.) I called back, spoke to a rude gentleman and when I said I didn't appreciate someone screaming on my machine for someone who doesn't live here, he said "well, it got you to call back, didn't it, ALEX." Said I wasn't Alex, gentleman hung up on me. I called back and said "did you just hang up on me?" To which he responded "Yes. It sounded like this." *CLICK.* Seriously? Who conducts business this way?

- not Michael replies to vabchbryanThere are a lot of scammers who make that type of call. They demand immediate payment and threaten you with arrest. If you don't have any past-due debts you can safely ignore the calls.
- MandyThese people called me today. They need to stop spamming and threatening people
- Gloria ParkerSomeone named Anna called my Supervisor saying she is with Kauffman and Associates and left some type of file number--- never says what its pertaining to -- making threats -- just want them to stop calling me my job with these threats. I read another post that said the exact same thing I just said that they called their job making threats! Just want them to QUIT!!!!!!!!!!

- Julie replies to vabchbryanCalled me October 13th and said the same thing. I've been getting these phone calls from different scammers for over 2 years. They call my brother, mother, and father too. They tell them I'm being charged with fraud. Real collectors don't do this. It's illegal and they can get fined for doing this but they manage to stay ahead of the authorities.
They said I provided a false promissory note on a recorded line. What does that mean? This guy said he sent me legal correspondence in the mail 45 days ago and I didn't respond. They did not. I open all of my mail and did not get a letter from Kaufman and Associates because they didn't send one. I've been sued twice by credit card companies and I was served a subpoena and given 30 days to respond and then got my wages garnished. They're messing with the wrong person. Unfortunately I know all too well how this process works. - sharonthese people have called and called me over and over calling my mom, dad, work is just a bit much... SCAMMING PEOPLE OUT OF MONEY!

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking), the only thing they understand.- Caller: Informational post
