just recieved a call from them saying we had requested re-activation...
re-activation? we had their service once but had it de-activated due to their all too high rates - and it took us 3 months to have the service discontinued all the while getting charged $20+ a month... listed as citech on my caller id ... i started to complain about my previous experience with them and then they hung up on me...

these people are doing things with people living with you, it mights be spouse or husband. Be careful
They surely listen to you at your home, with your web cam or your phone and cell phone. Be careful know every thing from your second half. They asked for my fiance

I know exactly what you mean. I had the same problem. They suddently increased my monthly fee. Everytime I emailed them, they said to wait. Finally I closed my account and stop payment from my credit card company. I also filed a complained with the FCC for their charges. They are the worst long distance phone company I have ever seen. Oh, another guy called me a few weeks later and wanted me to join. He was promissing good rates, but I rejected their offer. They can't fool me again. The stole money from me.

This # had called me many times in the last while. This is Startec long distance service company, but they are one of the worst and dis-honest company on earth !!! I was using their service for a while, but had to stop it after could not handle their high rate and dis-honestive charges to my bill. Avoid this company if you can.

From other post on this site I see that this number is probably coming from Startec phone service.  They don't leave any message on the answering machine.  I was once a subscriber, but cancelled my service some months ago.  They're probably trying to solicit follow up business.

Their ph # displayed on my cell caller ID:  888-606-8394.  They didn't leave a message.

Well, if anyone on this board has "ever" used 10-10-719 as a dial out prefix for making long distance phone calls, that's who these folks are (http://www.startec.com/US/EN/products/1010719/). So, no amount of listing your phone number on a national DNC registry or having it otherwise hidden will keep these folks from trying to sell you something, as you've taken advantage of their service as a customer. Businesses, or anyone that claims and can show proof of having done business with you, do not have to worry about the DNC, as you'd be classified as their customer, even if it was once within a given calendar year (https://www.donotcall.gov/faq/faqbusiness.aspx#who) .

I got a call from this number just now....and getting many calls from this number, But nobody on the other end..I do not want more calls, I am always busy with kids...Fed up.

I got o phone call from this number just few minutes ago. I don't know whether or not it's from Startec, but it may be because I once was their customer and left them because they started to charge me all sort of fees that accounted for way much then the  amount of minutes i used monthly. They were quite fair in the beginning, but begun by degrees  to charge me extra fees so that i discontinued the long distance service with them.Now i use www.keepcalling.ca , don't pay any extra fee, the quality of the sound is crystal clear and have nothing to complain about them. Probably i'm "red flagged" by startec because they call me just after i make a phon call via the other long-distance company.

This call is from Star Tec long distance phone provider. I purchased prepaid international calling minutes for my cell phone and they call to activate your service and provide you with other info. In my case it was a legitimate call, however, they may also be telemarketing in search of new business as well.

This is a scam.  The CBS local news affiliate in Houston Texas did an expose on this company.  It is totally fake company and a scam.  Do not deal with these people.  Block there number on your cell phone.  Don't answer emails or letters.  You may file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission for Consumer Fraud.

called but no voice....

This Startec outfit is crazy.  I saw one of their ads for cheap long distance a couple of years ago (using one of those 10-10-XXXX prefixes) and clipped it out of the newspaper .  The ad stated 1 cent/minute for where I called (I later read the small print and saw that there was another small flat fee for each call).

I came across the ad I had clipped out and I made two calls at the beginning of this year using their number and had forgotten about doing so (their ad stated that the charges would appear on my regular phone bill).  Then 3 or 4 months ago, I received a bill from them for something around $10 - which also included a late charge, even though this was the first bill I had ever received from them.

I wrote an e-mail to them asking what this was about, since I had never heard of them before and the bill I received had no call details and only referred to a previous bill that I had never been sent.  When they sent me the details, I remembered that I had used their 10-10 service twice - but, also, that the charges were much more than the advertised rates (and I also checked their website and the advertised rates that I had were still the same) - even with the added fee per call.

I e-mailed them and said I would pay exactly the advertised rate for my calls, plus their fee per call, plus taxes - which was less than half of what they billed me.  But I also told them I would only pay by cash - as I had already figured out that this was a scam (the person writing e-mails to me had a poor grasp of English) and I did not want to associate any of my bank accounts with them or to spend extra on a money order (the s/c for the MO would have been more than I owed them!).

They responded by telling me not to send cash and I didn't.  So, I owe them about $4.  But, they have called me from this number regularly since - to collect $4!!  Their costs to collect this tiny amount far exceed what I owe.  At least they haven't sent me another statement (just got the one).  Losers.  

Just received another call!  They really want their $4 - even if it costs them much, much more to get it!

They call 2-4 times a day!!!

I have received 3 calls in a few hours.  The first time they left a vmail saying there was a problem with my account and to call a number.   I don't have an account with these people.  2 more calls came after with vmails saying nothing, just background chatter.  Blocking the number now!

I just got a call from 888-606-8394, only a few minutes after I got off the phone from speaking with the long distance provider VAR TEC Telecom Services. I cancelled services on 4/29 (I was moving on 4/30 & phone was being disconnected), but they told me to call back on the day of the move...thenext day. So I told them to cancel at that time. I suspected they would not, so I had just called to confirm cancellation, and they had not cancelled (as I suspected). Minutes after geting off the phone in my new location, I got this call, which hung up after my automated voicemail answered. SO IT'S A LONG DISTANCE CARRIER...probably goes by different names. In this case, it's VAR TEC, an unscrupulous business with many complaints against it.
