I just got the same exact message and then they called a family member as well.  I called the number back, when they asked for the case number, I replied with "Sure, I'll play along, it is XXXXXX". The guy said "You think we're playing a game?" and then hung up on me.

This scam caller has now called 4 family members of mine as well.   Unfortunately there is so much info available online now for these people to get ahold of these days.  They called me from 6232265828 but left 8886621013 as the callback number.

888-662-1013  from Reinhardt and Associates Law Firm . called my adult children and left a case number.  I called and talked to very rood people that bullied me about an account not paid from an old credit card company from 2014.
They transferred me to Administrative Legal Dept and the guy proceeded to give me all of my previous addresses as well as the amount owed to settle the debt.
Then emailed me the paperwork to complete in order to stop action.
Is this a scam? They had a lot of accurate information above me and knew how to reach my adult children. Advice please?

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them so that they can scare that person into paying extortion money.  They will usually also state information that would be illegal for a real debt collector to state to department and tell them that you are a deadbeat who does not pay their bills. They often call people that have never even been a third party such as that you are being sued, that you owe money to someone, etc. They threaten that if you do not call them back, they will contact your HR associated with you because they get erroneous information off the internet.

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency. They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation. It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I got a call yesterday from 406-295-6665. It went to voicemail stating that I had a case number and Alan was calling from process server dispatch. They are making the final attempt to serve a summons to the property attached to the phone record. The documents require signature for proper service. Someone over the age of 18 must be present and available. I'm suppose to call back 888-662-1013. Failure to do so will result in penalties and fines...

I looked up the number yesterday and not much came up. My husband got the call this morning and answered. The person on the other end said I had been served. I called the number to see who was calling and the person who answered said Reinhardt & Associates and immediately put me on hold.

I believe this is a scam trying to collect on an old zombie debt that has been discharged. I'm going to take the advice of BigA above.

I received a call from my own area code. When I answered it is the same song and dance you are all reporting. It was a gentleman stating he was from the Process Server Dispatch needing to schedule servicer of papers from Pima County, AZ at 4pm tomorrow. He asked if I would be at my location at that time. I asked him what it was regarding and he said it was a sealed envelope from the Superior Court but gave me the "Case" number and an 888 phone number to call and verify. Does he think I am that stupid. I told him I have never lived or had any business dealings in the State of AZ and I wasn't going to agree to anything. Then he started with the threats that if I didn't agree to service I have been warned, blah blah blah!
    OK see ya!

Yes, of course he thinks you're "that stupid". He's hoping to scare you into paying him money to not serve you. Except REAL process servers don't call to schedule an appointment and they don't take money to not serve you.

100% SCAM! First, if you are being served with court ordered papers they are not going to call and verify if you are going to be home.  They simply show up at your door. If you knew someone was coming to serve you, you would leave, DUH! Second, they called me by my middle name. If this was real they would have used my legal first name. They are trying to get your personal info to serve you with some fake papers to scare you in to paying some bogus debt.

You're mostly right. Except they don't want your info & there aren't any papers, fake or otherwise. They want your money, plain and simple. They'll tell you that you can pay your way out of being served  (lie) or, as you said, that there's a bogus debt.
