- Owens| 1 replyThreatening with state hearing I have 48 hours to respond. Shouldn't this stuff come in the mail rather than harassing phone at my job?
- Caller: Clearview Resolutions
- Call type: Debt collector
- Slim replies to OwensA phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
Unless the original communication contained this specific information, every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.
REMEMBER THIS IF YOU FORGET ALL ELSE:
1. Legally, THEY must prove you owe the debt (you do not have to prove to them that you do not owe the debt)
2. They must prove they have a legal right to collect the debt
3. They must send you snailmail with specific info within 5 days of the original contact, if you request that validation, or if that information was not provided on initial contact. You have up to 30 days to reply to that validation.
IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:

- Caller: 888-673-5917
- JustinCase replies to TracieSlim pretty much hit the nail on the head, however, you've provided no details on what the call was about. If it's pertaining to the same reports, yes, it's an extortion scam and IGNORE both the number and message.
- jerrymike brock calling from this number is making a threatening call to my wife, and other members of my family
- Caller: mike brock
- Call type: Debt collector
- S.M.I received the same type of voicemail message from 'Tim Johnson', twice. The problem is, if you look on Clearview Resolutions website, there are several marks against them. I actually DO owe a minimal amount of money, which I WANT to pay, but I want to pay it to the correct company, not a fictitious one. The caller then told me that it is through Chebat Portfolio Management, which ALSO has a lawsuit against them.
- Caller: Tim Johnson - Direct Outscourcing
- OnToItReceived recorded message from "Mike Brock" advising me that a Civil Complaint had been filed against me and that I must submit a statement prior to the hearing being scheduled or I won't get any support. Looked up the number and it belongs to Clearview Recovery Services in NY. A debt collection company. Basically violating the FDCPA by claiming there is pending legal action as against tactic to get you to call them back. They can put it in writing and mail me a debt notice.
- Caller: Clearview Recovery Services
- Call type: Debt collector
- J.R replies to DanGot a voicemail from mike brock in regards to a civil complaint. Nothing else. Strange
- OwenCalled on my private number and at work about a file # to serve me with paperwork from a currier service, also wanted my home address.
