FYI received a call this morning from a unknown caller sent it to my voicemail. The message stated John Cook will be at my residence between 1-3 to serve me some documents. The number he left was 1-888-673-5961 to call and reschedule if this time does not work.

I got a call from a unknown number first.  Female.  Said she was a processor for the county that I live in and that she was going to serve me papers but not till the next day. She claimed that she didn't know what the papers were but told me to call this 888-673-5961 and reference this case number.  I called and they were trying to collect on a payday loan.  I don't remember ever taking a loan out with these people and told the guy I would wait till they served the papers before I talked any further.  After that the unknown caller tried to call me twice.  I didn't answer because I have never had a processor call me so many times about serving papers.  They usually just show up.  My husband is law enforcement and he has never seen anything like this before.  I live in IA.  I think I am going to call my county sheriffs office to see if they really have papers to serve me.

You have no need to call the sheriff's office.  Real process servers do not call before coming, they just show up.  This is a ploy bu criminals in an attempt to extort money from you.  They hope that you will pay them money in order to avoid a phoney criminal prosecution.

I received the same call. I called the number that was left in the message. Turns out it was a payday loan from a company I never dealt with. When I was trying to get more information the woman by the name of Karen was extremely rude and argumentative. When I told her that if I have questions about money that I supposedly owe and  I should be able to ask them without her cutting me off. She then hung up on me. I called back got a gentleman by the name of Jeff, he was helpful gave me the information that I asked for and turns out I have no idea who this company is that I supposedly owe. I even went back to my bank statements 3 yrs ago and there is no company that I received money from. This might be a scam!

I received a call from an unknown number looking for my husband. They left a voicemail stating he had documents for my husband and that he will be back at our residence the next day between 2-4 since the last attempt failed a week before. He also stated that he took it upon himself to get employer records and if need be will contact his employer to serve the papers. I found it suspicious when he stated at the first attempt to visit that he knocked a few times for a couple of minutes and then no answer. The number he left was 1-888-673-5870. I know it's not the exact same number but they all start with 1-888-673. Just the last four are different. I decided to call back the number and got a voicemail stating that no one was available to answer my calls. So I left a voicemail stating I'm going to report them to the police because I know they are a scam. Not two minutes later an unknown number calls and it's a guy (sounded like the same one on the voicemail that was left) yelling at me that this was his office and I think I'm big and bad because I'm calling the police. He then said if I wanted to start a problem he can give me one and called me a f*****g b***h and hung up on me. He then called right back but I declined his call. Please be aware of these people because they are trying to trick you to think that you are being served a court summons for a company that they never mention in order you to pay some money.

I am getting these same calls looking for me but now they have even gone as far as calling my mom, my sister and one of my best friend. I know it's a scam but still makesome me nervous. The number that keeps calling won't even allow me to talk to a person because I want so bad to cuss them out. Here is the # 818-219-7441. And I have never took an Internet loan with them

I got same call on 20th of Dec in WYO. A lady said her name was Kendle and a summons was being issued the next day between 1-3pm and processor would come by home once and job once to serve summons and I needed to show an I.D. and give signature. If both attempts fail they would consider me evasive. If I wanted to see charges and allegations filed against me before summons is served to call filing parties number immediately at 888-673-5870 give them a case number and address situation. Then she repeated info a second time and that if I didn't contact the number and they don't get notified I called or they don't get a STOP ORDER SUMMONS that an officer of the law would be coming for me...called them to see and just like others above said no one was there to take my call but it was important to them and leave name number and msg and I would be called back soon as they could....I AM CALLING POLICE TO REPORT BUT ITS XMAS TODAY SO BE IN MORN

There's no "might" about it. This is a scam. Real process servers never call in advance and they never give you the opportunity to pay your way out of being served. And a real debt collector would follow the law by mailing you proof of the debt. Phone calls, faxes, texts, and emails are not legal methods of debt notification.

Scam! A process server will never call in advance because then you could avoid them.

I just received a call from "Thomas Sailen, a processor with State Legal Services". I basically received the same message about "he will be at my residence or place of business tomorrow between 1-3 to serve me some documents, and that if I wanted to know what this was about, I should call 1-888-673-5870,  and that I should call to reschedule if this time does not work".  I have to admit that I was shaken by the call, and wondered who could possibly be suing me, and for what. Fortunately I decided to search this number on the internet before calling back and I found this page. I won't be calling back, and from what I read here, I expect I will hear hear from "Thomas Sailen" again. If this is somehow legit, I guess I will see "Thomas" tomorrow between 1-3. I'll have my "state issued ID" ready as he requested.
I will update this post tomorrow and let you all know what happens.

Well, it's 5:00. My wife has been at home all day, and I have been at my "place of business" and "Thomas Sailen" never showed up. Based on the other messages posted, I suspect that I will receive another call tomorrow stating how he attempted to deliver my documents and I was not available, and the message will have more threats included. I'll keep you guys posted.
