was called but missed the call so they left a message and had my name on it.  Said it was Capital One Fraud and that I've been a victim, when I finally checked my messages (time and date doesn't say on it and the number and name didn't show up on my id) I called back and first got a main desk for "Nowles Location" or "Knowles Location" which asked me to enter the ext. and when I did that it came to the machine of Tamika of Capital One Fraud Investagations, please leave your name, time you called, full phone number, account.....I mean really...is this a fraud of a fraud company??
    • Caller: Capital One (but I think not legitimate)

I did not receive a call but a letter with the same phone number this is Capital One's fraud line - I found out by calling Capital One's customer service number at 800-955-7070.  There was infact a fraudulent account set up using some of my information.

    Follow up:

I called Capital One's fraud department directly and they said that the 888-733-4626 number was legit. But he did say they shouldn't have asked me for my entire SSN or Account number... So when in doubt, call your credit card company directly and talk to someone in the fraud department.

Call was left on voice mail Friday.  When I called Capitol One on Sunday using the number on the back of the card, they said there was no evidence of Fraud on my account.

However, I had to force "Kim" to enter an entry in my file.  She wanted me to report the fraud to the Better Business Bureau.

The voice mail left was from an "Alan" who gave his identifier as 4106670.

I received a letter from Capital One, stating that I may have been the victim of identity theft. Being a LifeLock member, I contacted them. They thought that this might be a scam, but, with me on the phone, contacted Capital One Fraud department. Lifelock introduced himself and let me explain the letter. The letter was, in fact, from Capital One. I was told to call Carl S. in the morning, and LifeLock would call me at 5pm to find out what Capital One had to say. Well, I called and Carl was on vacation, but I did speak with Melissa. She told me that someone opened a Capital One account using my social security number. The name, address, zip code, and date of birth were all wrong. This was opened Online. The card was issued but Carl caught it and flagged it.  If you get a letter like this, contact Capital One Fraud Department to see if it is legit, then take it from there. Don't ignore the letter..but don't simply call the number first. Contact the REAL Capital One to insure it is real. Also, NEVER, NEVER give youe full SSN to anyone over the phone!!!  As far as LifeLock, they told me not to panic, since I was covered for one million dollars of protection and they would straighten out any identity theft problem. I think the problem is that anyone can make up any SSN and do the same thing. The only part of the application that was real was my SSN, which could have been made up and not stolen!  I am going to suggest to LifeLock that the scammers may be getting around fraud protection by simply using SSNs. Something needs to be done to correlate the SSN with the name, birth date, etc.
BOTTOM LINE....DON'T IGNORE THE LETTER FROM CAPITAL ONE....EVEN IF IT LOOKS LIKE A BAD COPY, AS MINE DID !!

I received a voicemail with the caller ID as Capital One.  The message left the number 1-888-733-4626 and said they were with Capital One Fraud Dept.

I called CapOne directly with the number on the back of my card and asked for the Fraud Dept.  The person I talked to said they did have a flag on a couple of large transactions.  The transactions were legitimate and it appears that the message was legitimately from CapOne, though I never did call the number they left.

I got a call from this number, alleging to be Capital One's fraud dept. (888-733-4626, x6872, Michelle).

Yes, it turns out this number is Capital One. I called the number on the back of the credit card, the Capital One rep (station ID pkj726) verified that there were notes in my file and that I was to call, guess who, Michelle at 888-733-4626, x6872.

So, you're paying for Lifelock and they couldn't even warn you that someone allegedly did this with your SS number? This is the service they are suppose to provide.

Received several messages from this number re: fraud along with a follow-up letter.  I did not call the number listed by the caller/letter.  Instead I called Capital One's customer service number (google it).  They said that this number is not one of their telephone numbers.  BEWARE!  DON NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION TO THESE PEOPLE!  HANG UP OR SHRED THE LETTER (as applicable).

Number is legitimate.  I received a call from Mary at the fraud dept with Capital One, 888-733-4626, stating there has been fraud on my account.  I called the number immediately went into an IVR system saying "thank you for calling the Knowles Center", I was transferred to the voice mail for Mary.  Her VM message requests that you leave your SSN, credit card number, address etc.  Needless to say I hung up and called Capital One (number on back of card).  There was a note on my account stating that someone had used a Capital One check in my name.  I was transferred to the fraud dept and had to get my account number changed.  So it is a legitimate number.  However, hard to believe that a credit card company would ask you to leave your SSN and other sensitive information on someone's voicemail!

File a complaint at https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx. Maybe with enough complaints, this will be stopped.

I received a voicemail indicating it was employee of Capital One Customer Protection department. The caller informed me that my account had been flagged for fraudulent activity and I should return her call as soon as possible. When I did return the call, the initial message indicated I had reached Capital One, please hold.  Soon, another message indicated i had reached the "Knowles Location" and enter the extension # of who I am trying to reach. After entering the extension, I was directed to the voicemail of Tracy, the same person who had left a message on my voicemail.  In her message, Tracy requested I leave my account number, social security, number and phone number so that she could return my call in the next 24-48 BUSINESS hours.

The number I called was 888-733-4626 xt 2436

I hope Capital One is actively pursuing acts of fraud against its cardholders.
