Logged onto laptop and a webpage launched warning me audibly about viruses and compromised in formation on my computer and network.  Had to use task manager to close the browser as hitting x didn't do anything.  Phone number provided was 888-810-5358.  I'm afraid they may be correct in saying my computer has been compromised, but I would suggest that they are the cause and not the cure.

Got the same message on my laptop will use task manager as you did to close the browser.

I think that person did by saying "task manager".  You open task manager and close your browser.  You must also clear the cache and cookies and not allow the browser to reload the pages when you restart it.

If you do not know how to do any of that, you will need to get someone to help you as it is too complex to describe over the internet.  You went to a website that has ads and one of those ads put that onto your computer.  At this point it is nothing more than an annoyance, but if you call that number you will end up with malware and worse on your computer.

Got the same audio message today on my laptop. Used my phone to check the actual Windows support number and it was different. Used task mgr to stop it.

Yes this screen popped up on my laptop and beginning in a audioble manner to inform me that my PC had been compromise and had a virus. I could not get out and just turned off PC.  So silly me I called the number and got a guy whom answered...he asked if he could get in to fix the problem for a small fee...I told him no!  I already have protection against viruses. (Sophos) Then I hung up but noted a few things his name supposedly was Mark Williams; zip 393925 ID = 1344 Don't think this is real info though! My IT guy scanned all and everything appears fine...

Got a call sayin that my ss is compromised.
