The "company" is actually BOR, I called back and verified the name. The number has been changed several times, 888-820-9002 is the newest. I used to be a collector, I'm familiar with Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I voiced MY rights under the act and they refused to comply. Big red flag that they are scammers. Real collection agencies will comply with your request for verification of the debt. They tried to get out of complying with FDCPA rules and regs by saying they are NOT an official collection agency: I reminded them that anyone attempting to collect a debt is subjected to FDCPA rules. Know your rights, but it's best not to engage. Do NOT verify any information that they have. If you choose to engage, continue to ask for verification of debt and tell them if it's not provided there is nothing they can do legally. They'll stop calling, but if they've called, others have your info as well and you'll have to do the same thing. Legitimate companies, do not threaten legal action for a debt, they are obligated to provide verification of the debt, as far as "serving' papers, they will send a legit process server to your employer with garnishment paperwork. This is a scam plain and simple. You give them money, they will take more from your account.

The above reply is mine, I just joined the site because I am sick and tired of these people. I am sickened by the posts I've read where people have been scared into paying "debts" they don't owe. Knowledge is power, and never more so than in this case. Read your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The scammers don't want to be bothered with someone who knows their stuff. I cannot express enough if the collector is legitimate, they will call from a legitimate company in which you can verify, they will send you proof or verification of the debt as requested. Some legitimate collectors do use illegal practices as well, but you still have the upper hand as long as you know your rights. Chances are that with a legitimate collector, the chances of them getting anything out of you are slim if they use questionable tactics. As for these scammers, when you call them out on being frauds, they stop. Encourage your friends and family not to speak with them, tell your job about it if they call. An employer actually sued NCO Financial for it's harrassment of one of his employees. BOR (888-820-9002) is a fraud. There is no such thing as a "locator" that will serve you, they cannot pretend to be officers of the court, they will not request arrest warrants. If they tell you who they are collecting for as they did with me, Anasazi Group, I questioned THEIR allegations of fraud as well and BOR's association with it. Bottom line, turn the tables on them and they will stop. Also do what I do, warn them to cease and desist altogether or you'll record all calls from now on.
