This was useful, thanks. I also received a call from them, and you saved me a lot of time and trouble by helping me to identify the caller.

Asking money for Fire Fighters.  I am sure they are spammers.  Now a days, people have learned out to fake including (US, UK) accents.

Man claiming to be from Cox Communications and asking how my service was and if all my services were working. I said “I only have internet with you guys.” And he continued to ask me what I would change about the service and then tried to give me information on security system for my home, stating he would send the details via email and text. I hung up. He called right back and I ignored it. He has not called again. They really are getting better at scams.

Real person, said he was calling from Cox and that I'm a "preferred customer". I'm not a Cox customer... These scammers have an outdated list of Cox customers. At first I thought it was them trying to get me back (NEVER!), but when he said I was a customer I just hung up.

Called claiming to be from Cox Communications.
Asked about how many devices we used and what we typically used them for.  Asked if we had any security cameras.  Didn't answer the question.  Said he had a special offer on security camera, window sensors, etc. for $20 a month.  Would not provide offer in writing.  Suspected Scam.

    THIS IS A SCAM CALLER!!!
They claimed to be cox communications. They asked me to confirm my identity by giving my first pets name. I gave them the name "Rex" which I've never had a pet named Rex. They said, "Okay thank you, we've got your identity confirmed and we can continue." This is when I knew it was a scam and hung up.

I spent 3 minutes with this fool.  He asked how many devices I had on my internet.  I told him 4.  He asked if I had a security camera and I said I wouldn't answer.  He pitched some upgraded product that would save money.  As he was blithering, I said that I had Spectrum and hung up. Fools.

The caller said he was from Cox communications.  I could hear a lot of background noise (like he was in a call center).  He then asked for my first pet's name (wanting to get answers for online verification).  I hung up on him.

Received a call on this number identified as COX Communications (I'm a PBX admin among other things, caller ID is set by the system operator, not the ISP/Telcos.  I can set it to say ANYTHING.  I can also set the number to be almost anything on an out going call - ya, it works like that, complete public trust. ROFL)

The call quality was off and I was working in a closet at the time before I ducked out to hear more.  I was actually waiting for a call from COX about a BGP config issue on a new line.  Caller sounded a bit rushed, asked about my room mate on the account (which he wasn't and didn't need to be), and then just sounded confused (as I now sounded confused, was there an issue with the line at home and this was support calling?).  He hung up and stated he would call later.  I confirmed the roomie hadn't tried calling or having issues with the line at the house so it was suspect.  It has tried calling 3 times now, I have been ignoring it.  No other communication from COX, no voicemail ever left (COX would leave a voicemail).
