I recieved a VM from an "unknown" caller who left a message stating he represented several plantiffs in a case pending against me for check fraud.  Of course I called the man back at the phone number he left on my phone- 888-978-3508.  He said that he represented "ACE Cash Express" regarding a payday loan I took out in 2007.  What is crazy is I did take out a loan in 2007.  He had all my information about the loan (accept that it was paid) AND my Social Security Number!!!!!!!  He said I would need to pay the original loan amount- plus interest accrued- totalling $1500 to keep this out of court.  Then he said he was willing to run a background check on me.  If my background check prooved I have never been harged with check fraud before he would be willing to see if we could drop some of the interest.  I said, "OK"...playing along.  He came back on the line approx. 2 mins later stating I was clear and this whole matter could be dropped if I paid $550.00.  In order to appease the plaintiffs and to ensure payment on these terms he would require a credit or debit card number.  I told him I didn't feel comfortable giving out my banking information.  He said I could give him a pre-paid number if it made me feel better.  I told him that I would discuss things with my husband and call him back.  He said I had 24 hrs.  I researched this group name, and verified through another debt collection attorney in the area that this was a scam, and was advised NOT to pay anything- file a complaint with the FTC- and put a fraud alert on my credit.  I did both.  Today- I recieved another call from the same people- "Gilbert Chavez" stating that I have officially been notified and a case against me is now filed with the court.  THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE STOPPED!  I have enough to deal with on a daily basis without having to recieve threatening calls like these, and having to worry that some crazy person has access to all my personal information!!!  What I want to know is who is giving them our information?  THOSE people are violating a number of privacy acts and should be sent to JAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also received a call from this number and they also said I owe for a check I written to ace cash back in 2007. I was wandering if this was a legit company because they also knew my personal info.
