Not sure what number called me, but this is the number on the pledge invoice for the New York Police Chiefs Foundation.  I'm posting this because they are showing up in your older records with an 877 number.  They may be using this now.

This is a SCAM. Found the following the info on the NYPD site. I have pasted it below.
The NYPD never solicits for charitable donations. New Yorkers have been conned out of millions of dollars by phony telemarketers who falsely claim to be soliciting donations on behalf of the New York City Police Department. These telemarketers pose as police officers and try to deceive potential donors with false and misleading statements that their donations will be used to support the NYPD, or help widows and children of slain officers. Sometimes they offer a police decal or similar item implying this will get you better treatment from the police.

If you receive a call on behalf of the NYPD – Write down as much information as possible and ask for written material.

Your call will be kept confidential. The only approved fundraising organization for the NYPD is the New York City Police Foundation, Inc. The Police Foundation does NOT use telemarketers.

They called claiming to be from the new York police chief's foundation asking me to make a donation. I said I will and I was passed unto a next representative. I told them I was not comfortable giving my information on the phone and to send me something in the mail. After saying that to them about  5 or more times they said okay. I received a letter in the mail with this 888 978 6246 number and a P.O.Box number 1540 new York NY 10101-1540 with the amount I pledged to the nypd. I called 311 and they transfered me to my precinct conforming it was fraudulent.

Asked to donate to New York Police Chiefs foundation. Received invoice with confirmation number. Phone number for information was 888 978 6246.

They called and ask me if I can donate and I said yes then they asked me how much and I said $25 then they said ok  Do I have your word on that. I said yes send me 4 decals for my cars. They said I’ll see what I can do. I received one decal and then I decided to goggle it that’s when I found out it was a scam. They almost got me

Called claiming to need funds to help with burial expenses for a recently deceased officer shot in the line of duty. Is sending me an envelope to mail funds back to them

That isn't what they do according to their website and if an officer is killed in the line of duty then the force that he/she worked for would pay for the burial expenses.
