- viskyI received a call from a private number at my work stating that there had been a complaint filed against my business and that I needed to call another number with a case file. They would not tell me what it was for. I called this 888-978-7061 number and gave them the file and they asked for my social security number and birth date, which I did not give them because they wouldn't tell me why they were calling so I told them they are harassing me and I hung up on them. They also called one of my relatives harassing her but would not tell her why.
- C TompkinsWhen I was browsing Facebook 3-21 I opened an "article" about a mother who noticed a man following her and her 3 kids around IKEA, then in the parking lot. THEN a big red warning screen came up talking about a Trojan, etc. "it might be too late" They gave this 888-978-7061 phone # for "customer service" the screen will not close so I had to shut off the power. I did not call the # but I know this is bogus.
- SuzyQNot a phone call; I got a Message from Windows Security Essentials webpage on my PC complete with a talking warning (my volume was off!). Said that a Trojan horse tried to get access to my PC, but didn't/might have. Then said to freeze my accounts for online shopping just in case. Confusing information, but kept telling me to call the number to get help. Luckily, those of you who report such scams helped me. It froze my computer up, so I just used the Task Manager and closed out of the Internet. Then I ran all my anti-virus programs and nothing was wrong. This is an attempt to get your personal info. Avoid clicking on OK or anything like that on the PC screen. I printed the information off so I could check it, but that is all I did. It is bogus.
- Caller: Says it is Windows Security Essential
- Marj| 2 repliesA message keeps flashing that there is a potential threat to my computer and to call 1-888-978-7961
- Shaunzy replies to MarjDON'T DO IT!
This is a criminal trying to access your computer. Close that window and ignore the message; it's a fake. If it won't close, turn off the power and restart your PC. If it still won't close, contact a reputable technician for help. - B-Edwards replies to MarjBe careful - That is what is called a Pop-Up and it is dangerous to open or mess with. Write down with the message is, this can be useful later - If a company name is given, that is good to write down as well.
Close the message. DO NOT call that number! Do a virus scan. There are programs to help you get rid of those pop-ups, you can google that. Also, google the name of the company or the message as it appeared, that might help you get rid of any problems. - AshleyAlso got a pop up while I was browsing the web looking for hair mask recipes. Red flashing, the voice saying to call, and it also wouldn't close. I figured it was lying because the grammar wasn't very good. SCAM- do NOT call.
