I just shut my PC off and booted.  Came up, didn't lose a thing.  Geek Squad said Microsoft doesn't have a call center.  First day got same message and called out of interest.  He tries to sound like official employee without saying so outright.  Said he was in Texas, but running the PH# was a residence in LA.  Scam.......
888-978-9558 and 855-410-1408 both numbers appear to be fakes....

I was using the Internet and then all of a sudden, a FAKE microsoft support "ERROR SCREEN "screen popped up on my computer stating that my computer sustained a fatal error  and instructed me to NOT SHUT off my computer or my computer would not restart.  In addition, there is a YES or NO button and when u click on either button to exit, an alarm soumds   When u call this number to FAKE TECHNICAL SUPPORT, , technical support answers and when u explain the situation, the technician states that my computer needed immediate attention.  The technician then tells you to open several screens which let's him diagnose the issue remotely.  The technician then asks several questions which all appear to be legit and using ur computer, shows that ur computer has been infected with the dll 32 execute virus file which allows someone to see all ur banking information and passwords.  When I told them I have Norton running I the background, the technician states this virus is undetectable by ur anti-virus software and he can not get rid of all the dll files without a payment of $199 for a 1 year subscription or u can pay $499 at a Microsoft certified support center with will take ur computer for 2 weeks for repair.  Then they start asking for ur phone number, name and email address so they can send u a file to upload which will delete all the fll 32 virus files.  THIS IS A SCAM! Do not give them access to ur computer or any credit card info!!!!!!

There are many FREE pop up blockers that you can add to your tool bar/web browser. They work, and prevent annoying scammer ads like this one from popping up.

I called them using a VoIP, just to find out and was alarmed that in THIS case they were actually American....!
But usually, you're right they do tend to be Indians.

Started getting pop-up stating it was a Phishing warning, to to shut-down computer. If I just clicked on the X the pop-up came right back up. If I clicked on the pop-up X and then immediately closed the site it worked. After couple days my anti-virus software created a pop-up it had removed the virus, guess it was just updated. See it if come back or it's now stopped.

AV and malware scans reveal no malicious threats. It is a scam. Supposed tech does not answer your call as one would expect from a legitimate tech call center. Just restart your computer. Same scam from this number: 1-888-922-5645
