I just got the same darn call, so i looked it up and got that

I made a mistake of calling them back - they have a scary script, they know my address, SIN and DOB and said I will get arrested for fraud if I don't pay. told me I am not allowed to speak to anyone until payment has been made. its obvious fraud but they certainly know a lot of personal info - someone must have hacked into some records....

I would report it to the police station under their fraudulant department.  They may be able to help you

i just got one too on the same date..left voicemail..I am in southwest ontario..I am calling phone busters right now to report this

I just called my local police and they did advise me that it is a scam and that its been going on for quite some time now.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!!!!  if so you'll have to call the canadian fraud center to protect your identity

Call CRA and ask if you have an outstanding balance owing to them. It's a simple phone call at 18009598281. I got a similar message this morning from these scamers.  I didn't call back but I called cra. The agent said that cra doesn't work like that, they would send a bunch of paperwork first then as a last resort call colecions plus he looked up my file and said that I have no balance...good luck

I'm in Southern Ontario and received a call this morning. They got my answering machine and left an automated message that I owed taxes and my bill has gone to collection. I called the number and was informed that owed taxes to Revenue Canada. Said that was strange as I got a tax return this year. He then said it was my wife's return but used an abbreviated form of her name, as the returns are tied together. Then he said my mistake and hung up. Obvious scam but the info they may have and how it may be used is disturbing. Gotta love the internet.

Got a call from there called them back finally got through and it was Indian guy I asked whats this about gave him my name all he said to me don't worry about it no more calls

they really have a good script.... when I told them I don't owe taxes they said they found in my audit proof that I had an 'intent to defraud CRA'... like I said before - its obvious fraud but scary part is that they must have hacked in CRA system - they had all my info

I'm in Toronto Ontario and i received a call from 1-888-959-8281 this morning went to VM.
The VM was an automated recording saying that I owed Taxes and I am defrauding the government (great English).  I called the number back and it rang and disconnected after a few rings,  few hours later I tried again and a man answered asking me to confirm my phone number and address and not to leave my house as the police would be coming to arrest me for defrauding the government.

If you are unsure if the call if real or fake you can contact CRA directly  or visit website and ask them to verify the number.  CRA will NOT under any circumstances give out personal information over the phone.

B/C I saw a segment on the News i was aware and  did not fall for this scam.  PLEASE MAKE FAMILY AND FRIENDS AWARE OF THIS SCAM!!

Just got another phone call from this number and told them i have already got a phone call and reported it to the police, they hung up on me.... I called back and the number is no longer in service.  [***]!!!

This is a scam of someone frauding revenue canada services , do not respond go to rcmp fraus alerts , google and you will see all scams

Got this same call - pressed 9 - big mistake - I said you are not CRA and hung up.  Called my telephone provider - there could be trouble as those of us who pressed 9 and talked to them may be charged long distance charges - could be big.  Check you phone account in a few days - Shaw have said it usually takes several days for charges to come thru - and see if they are actually charging long distance.  In the msg it said to end the call press 9 - so I did - but then another voice came on the line. And can you believe it - two hours later they called  me back again.  I also spoke to CRA and as you all know it is a scam.  I am feeling quite dumb right now.

We just had the same thing happen.  Called them back.. whatta mistake!  we agree with the hack into some records.  Very scary!  I am still shaking!  Already submitted a report to RCMP Fraud

They called me just now. Googled the number and got this site.
Another rip off artist.

Got a call from them too lol , told me they are freezing all my assets n bank accts, told them to **** off n go ahead, then blocked their number

A threatening message was left on the business line.  I called back no answer, I called again and the individual hung up when asked what it was regarding.  I immediately called Revenue Canada and was assured that this number does not belong to CRA.  The CRA representative assured that their name and agent ID is always provided and when calling it will be follow-up to a CRA letter previously sent.
My accountant too has assured that anyone asking for personal, tax or other financial information must submit request in writing.  In order to do so, that individual must have the necessary information - name, address, SIN, etc. - do not give the information.  You can let them know to contact the chartered accountant - again, if it is CRA, this information will be on file.
