Received a bill in the amount of $785 from the NYC Fire Dept. Called the number above to ask if the charge was for two people since my husband and I rode to the hospital together. The reply was for one person. The bill had the name of Insurance Company but the policy number was my social security. I asked were did that number come from was told that there was a database  where they get their info from that placed that number there. Later in the conversation I was asked for my birth date but I did not give it out. However when I was asked for the last four digits of my social security number, without thinking I gave this info to the person. They also had my phone number. I asked for an address where I can send a letter of complaint about the high fee I was charged. The person gave me the telephone number to the NYC Fire Dept. Beau. of Investagation which was closed. (Will call again tomorrow)   After I hung up I realized that I just verified my ss# and didn't get the name of the person I spoke with. I called back got a completely different person who was ask me the same questions as the other person. This person said his name was Anton and he could not give me his last name. He also gave me his reference number which is #AD4350. Tomorrow I will stop by the main business office for Fire Dept. with this bill to see if I can get more info. I also received calls from the 732, 646, 516 number during the day that I didn't answer but waited 10-15 minutes and called back. Got no answer. Didn't put the two together until I saw the 732 number in someone else complaint.

I have to wonder why you called this number, was it on the bill you received from the NYC Fire Dept? This sounds more like a billing issue, instead of a scam.

I would call the Hospital you went to and ask them who does the billing go to and get the phone numbers from them. Hang onto that bill, because if it is a scam, then its local and they can be caught. You can find out by tracing the billing process steps of your ambulance ride all the way to the bill you received. If its a scam, then you can file a complaint with the police and send the letter and envelope to the Postal Inspector for fraud.
