Reports to be from AmazonPayments Customer Service.
I found an RV on Craig's List.  The posting says the customer is from Mobile, AL.  Upon inquiring about the RV, I was told the owner and RV is in Utah.  I found another listing for the same RV with the same email address on another listing site saying it was in Indiana.
The RV owner said she was a recent widow and just wanted to get rid of the RV. She could send the RV to me COD with shipping already paid on her end.  Shipping was free because she had already paid for shipping to my state due of another buyer that had backed out at the last minute and she could not get a refund.  What's funny is, I had not told her what state I live in.
She sends another email saying that she could not send the RV COD because her neighbors told her it would be best if there was a purchase to guard against fraud.  She said that at she neighbors suggestion she was setting a payment method up through Amazonpayments.
I received an authentic looking email from Amazonpayments giving me instruction to purchase multiple gift cards to equal the amount of the RV price.  I was then to call the 888-980-9748 telephone number for Amazonpayments customer service and give them the gift card numbers.  I was them to send them pictures of the cards front and back along with a picture of the cards purchase receipt for proof I was using the cards to complete the purchase.  In reading the email from "Amazonpayments," I found a few typos and syntax errors.
I received another email from the RV seller saying that Amazonpayments had told her that they had sent me the email.  She demanded that I hurry and complete the transaction because "He" was a "Businessman" and had been "Screwed" before and was not going to let that happen again.
Hmmm, I wonder if this is a scam?

This is a well known scam going around right now.  According to official Amazon Payments site, you pay with a credit card, not gift cards that can be sent by untraceable means.  Report this to Amazon so that others might be helped.

Here is how to spot a phony RV ad:

It has an out-of-area or out-of-state phone number.
There is a phone number or email address on the photo of the RV.
They want you to only contact them by text or email.  (Especially if it is a free email like Gmail or Hotmail/Outlook)
The price is too low or unrealistic (for instance, $2000 for an RV or camper less than 10 years old).
There is a lot of random punctuation in the subject headline, often between words and letters.

Flag the fake ads, by clicking "prohibited" at the top of the CL ad (next to the "reply" button).  It takes more than one flag to remove an ad.
And, most importantly, NEVER pay for an RV (or camper, car, truck, motorcycle) you can't see and inspect in person!
