I had a 19.95. charge added to my visa bill by the people at this number--unautherized--my visa had to be cancelled and they are ivestigating it.

Today (05-Jan-2009) this number is answered by PRIVACYPORTECTIONPLUS of Quebec.  They collect money from people who click on credit report advertisments on the Internet.

What are you doing about it? Did you have to cancel your credit card?

I to went online to see my free credit report and was charged 29.95 on my visa. I know better than that to supply my number but I thought they need it to pull my records. No this was asked for, so that they can charge you to see your free credit report this is a scam 100%

yeah i have this charge of 86 on my visa AP9*PRIVACYPROTECTION 888-999-0535 QC I told my visa about it havent seen any changes yet. I dont really care i pay for insurance for this so they will correct and attack the person for me.

You will be charged every month unless you terminate the agreement by phoning 1-866-444-1837 or 1-888-999-0535.  You have a 7 day free trial period before they start charging you.  I got hooked on it yesterday Jan. 17 2009.  I am going to phone tomorrow and cancel.  Hopefully they will accept the cancellation, if not the next step is to cancel the credit card.

I went online to see my free credit report. I was charged 29.95 on my visa. I wasn't asked regarding the charge at all. This is a illegal and the law should act on this.......I am not mad, but foolished.....how they can do this in a coutry of law .........

I'm getting charged 29.95 for this privacy protection which I never authorized them to charge me ... anyway I called today and canceled and I spoke with the customer service of my visa and they told me to make sure to take a confirmation number of cancellation and if they do charge me again than they have to do something about it... the phone number that I called 1866 444 1837 they will give u too choices just press 0

I have this charge on my visa credit card from #AP9*privacy protection - 888-999-0535 ? I was charge 12.95$.  Dont know anyting about this number and will call tomorow the number that was given and if not will cancelle card !

Yes, I had the same charge mysteriously show up on my visa. At first I thought it was the charge for signing up for gold membership on classmates.com but then the charge reappeared on my next statement. I called 1866 444 1837. The operator advised me that this looks like I inadvertently signed up for this by clicking on a link in  classmates.com. He said he would cancel it and credit me for the last 2 months. We shall see.

It happen with me also. I was charge 29.95 CAD on my credit card twice. I contacted my visa card company.They say I can block the card so no one can access. I did that and I will phone them tomorrow for cancel. I hope I can get it credit back aswell.

I called 1-866-444-1837 to cancel. They told me they will reverse the original charge that appeared on my credit card. They were pretty hard driving with me about the fact that I had a membership. Stick to your guns: if you didn't sign up, you shouldn't have to pay.

It is so horrible.

I cancelled my credit card in Nov 2008, the last transact was 21st Oct 2008.

However, last week I received a credit card statement, says I need to pay 59.90 for PRIVACYPROTEC...

It seems many people had same problem as me. I really want to know if that is legal, and what happens to my credit if I do not pay for that transaction at all?

The best thing to do is call 1-866-444-1837. Privacy Protection is billing you because they believe you have a membership, so your first step is to cancel this or you will keep getting billed. If you argue to them that you did not intend to sign up, then you may be able to get the charges reversed. Failing this, you would have to pay for the charges to protect your credit rating. Actually, it won't stop the billing. As long as Privacy protection has you on record as a member, they will bill you every month at the credit card number that they obtained. If you have an overdue balance on your old credit card, then it would be better to pay it and fix the problem later so your credit rating won't be damaged. There should be an option at the 1837 number to speak with a representative. I was in exactly the same situation; I spoke with a representative, and I maintained with them that I did not authorize them to take my information. a couple of days later, the charge was reversed.

I finally reached a humen being instead of cold machines. They even do not have my right name with the credit card information... weird!

They promise to reverse the payment in a couple of days. I hope everything will just be fine after then.
