This number is sending unwanted texts messages regarding an auto accident. I have not been in one, nor have I heard of this insurance company. They only send text messages. This company is based across the county- not sure how my number got on their list.

No reason to wonder how your number got on their list.  They simply send out thousands of texts, just like spam email.  It is simply not relevant.  What you should concentrate on is what to do.

Unwanted Text Messages

Forward unwanted text messages to 7726 so that your carrier will block them. Some carriers do not accept that code and if that is the case then contact your carrier about how to block unwanted text messages. Also, never, ever click on a link as it will probably install something nasty to your phone that you really will not want to deal with and never, ever respond to one because lets them know that they have a good number with someone on the other end.  It will result in more calls and texts.

I received the same text today! Claiming that Kemper Insurance will call me.
