I received a "final notice" from Powerhouse Financial stating that I had won $250,000.00 dollars along with a check for $4890.00 to help pay for the taxes. The  notice gave instructions  to call before  depositing the check. How sad. . .the next step would be for me to send them money before depositing the(bogus) check.  With a mass mailing they will find some naive persons to defraud. I am going to file a complaint with the Post master General about this one.

I recieved the same scam letter and check.  It is a real check, but I guaruntee it will not clear at Howard Bank, the account is empty.

The hook is two-pronged.  First, they want you to think you have won $250,000 so you lower your guard.  This is not how legitimate sweepstakes work.  They take the tax out of the winnings.
Second, They want you to think you can make a quick $1905, which is the difference between the $4890 check they sent and the $2985 they want you to pay up front.  In reality, they will rip you off for $2985 and your bank will also charge you their ree of $35 or so when the $4890 check bounces, which it will.
This is mail fraud.  Does anyone know who should this be reported to?  Postmaster General?  Local post office?

I received the same check today but the check looks legal.  When I called the phone number of 1-416-831-5655 and said to call them before using the check. I keep trying to calling and a recording says that the message on their machine was full but to please continue to call.
Were you able to speak to anyone from Starmark Financial Inc.  When I googled the name of the company, I saw where many people got the same.Haveyoubeen to verify any of this because the letter said to call 5 business days.  I also just noticed the letter is dated 4-16-08 and today is the 21st  (5 days - really conveinant.)

I received the same letter in the mail today. Company Starmark Financial. I also called the number 1-905-598-1610, message said box was full. I believed this was a scam eventhough the check looks authentic. I would like these creeps to be prosecuted, if they can be located.

I recieved this "BS".  I read it and I said to my self that this a scam. I am going to turn it in to the FBI, Postmaster, and the military legal office.  Some people will get stung from this scam if they let their guard down. I will also send it to the local newspaper and TV station here.
