I got a call from this number twice today. The first time they did not respond so I hung up. The second time it was a recording that had my name and said if it was me, press 1 and if it wasn't press 2. Strange.

Without doubt this number is the fraud department with Washington Mutual. They monitor your account closely. I hardly ever get cash from ATMs, but I made two $160.00 withdrawals on the same day. This triggered the monitoring computer to call me to verify the activity.

That is the weak link. The computer calls and if it gets you, it asks you to hold and then tries to get an operator on the other end, which could take some time.

The Caller ID says "California", and if you call them they will only identify themselves as "Card Services" unless you ask. This anonymity

This anonymity is to keep the fraud rings from circumventing the system.

They may service other banks/cards as well, but in any case this is probably one of the few "anonymous" calls you probably should communicate with.

I'm the type of person that prefers to ignore unknown phone calls and let them leave voice mail.

Calls started Saturday afternoon at 4:16 PM . No message left. The next call was SUNDAY MORNING AT 8:04 AM !! A message asked for a former owner of this phone number (over 4 years ago). If it is legit, how do they not have the current phone number of their credit card holder ? Third call same CID text 925-738-0213 11:14 AM . Told them I was not the person they were calling for, that I am not related to that person, know nothing about them, and asked them to correct their records and stop calling me. Said they had to have the card number! Told them how do I know the card number ? Asked nicely to have them update their files with the record of this phone call and the info that this ain't the right phone number for so and so.They said hold on. Came back, told me to send a letter to WaMu P.O. Box 2430 Charleswoth CA 91313-2430. Asked if I couldn't fax it. Said no. What legit company doesn't have a fax ? Why should I spend the postage when it has nothing to do with me? The FTC is hearing from me on this one!

They called me from this number at 8:05 AM today, then again at 11:06. Not recognizing the number, I let it go to voicemail. No message left. Everyone here says its WaMu, however, at no point in my life, have I ever been a customer of, applied at, or had any connection to WaMu, so why would they be calling me?

    Bad Call
Recieved a string of calls a few hours apart from 925-738-0227.  They identified themselves as card services and asked for a bunch of semi-personal information.  Something about the call didn't feel right, so I called the WaMu number on the back of my card.  The WaMu rep said it IT ISN'T WAMU.  Trying to get everything cleared up.

This is a legit call/recording from Washington Mutual about a possible fraudulent charge/withdrawl on my card.  You have the option to hear the complete details about the transaction (transaction, location, date, time, etc).

    Scam
I think this is a scam, if wait and talk to the operator they are totally unprofessional, and fishing for your info. The lady also hungup on me when I told her that I did not have my card on me. When I went to my bank they had never heard and was no record of the charges that the lady spoke of.. SCAM!!

I got this call also and called them back and it was comical. I don't believe anybody who says this is legit. I wonder if the scammers might also have people posting positive comments about the number. Scam has it right (22 Mar 2008)

It is a good number from WAMU Visa.I called the number on the back of my card and they were trying to get me to verify a charge I had made.
Glad they are on the ball as it was out of the normal things I charge.

I received a call from this number also. First time was last night around 10:30-11pm and again today at 10:10am. Each time they call they say "something something (not sure) card services" and then they ask for the numbers on my card. Bull

I've had fraud protection before from Bank of America and one time through Western Union. Each time they had an actual rep call me, ask if this is (my name), and then state why they were calling. Having a machine call me is bull and if my bank was that distanced from its customers, I would leave.

    This is NOT WAMU
I received a call from 925 738 0227.  They answered as Wamu Fraud Dept "Can I have your account # please"?  I told the Indian man I wasn't going to give him any information because how do I know he's from WAMU?  He stumbled over his words.  He offered to transfer the call to the WAMU Debit card Fraud Dept (apparently he was calling about my WAMU credit card - I don't have one).  I said don't transfer me to someone else in your building who's going to tell me they're from WAMU.  You're still not getting any info from me.  I called WAMU Fraud Dept.  THEY DO NOT HAVE A DEPT USING THIS PHONE NUMBER OR ANY PHONE NUMBER FROM THE 925 AREA CODE (Southern California)  THIS IS A SCAM - DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.  WAMU DOES NOT CALL AND SOLICIT PERSONAL INFORMATION FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS.

    Worried in Chicago
Yesterday I attempted to buy gasoline with my WAMU credit card and was denied so I called the number on the back of the card to find out why. The man I spoke with said my account was being reviewed so when I asked to speak to a supervisor or someone in the US he threatened to freeze my account and hung up on me. I called WAMU's customer service number and had the freeze lifted. Now I just received a call from the
    (925) 738-0227 number with the automated prompt that asked whether I had made a charge which I had not, when I pressed the number to speak to a customer service rep a man, who I suspect is the same one from last night, told me he was going to put my account under review and asked me why I had called him. I asked for his name and ID number and hung up on me.  This might be a legitimate number for WAMU but it looks like their workers are using it for their own personal enjoyment.
