I just got call too. I called back and said it was sprint 411. Weird.

I just got a call from this number 951-555-1212. I did not answer but did call it back and it took me to Verizon Wireless 411.  I see someone had the same experience before a few years back but it took them to Sprint 411. These scammers are out of control.

As stated if you call this number you will get your carriers 411 line. It was formerly the "time" number in most area codes in california, not sure about other states. This is now being spoofed by a telemarketer to avoid the no call list harassment complaints.

They called my very private cell phone at 6:31 PM PST on 7 January 2015. My phone is on the Do Not Call list. I did not answer. They did not leave a message.

It was immediately obvious to me that the caller ID was showing a spoofed phone number, because no valid phone number begins with 555 for any area code. Furthermore, 555-1212 was the old "Time" phone number in this part of California, which played the current time when you called it. Time was discontinued in 2007. (In other area codes, it got you directory assistance before there was 411.)

I am also receiving identical calls from other Southern California area codes, such as 909. The common factor is the invalid phone number "555-1212".

Perhaps these jerks are using "555-1212" because it looks familiar to people. I will report them to DoNotCall.gov, not that it will do any good.

They are calling me almost every day, from different area codes with the same 555-1212 phone number. Whatever they may claim to be, they are NOT solicitations from Verizon or Sprint. They are trying to scam you out of your money.

See my note above for more comments, including the fact that NOBODY should be calling you from a "555" number.

I will report them to DoNotCall.gov, not that it will do any good. I hope that persistence helps, but I doubt it.

Ok so people.  555-1212 has been the number for INFORMATION for maybe 40 years!      Someone has scammed it so it appears in caller ID.     That means you automatically know it's bogus so DONT ANSWER IT!       I file all of them under XXXX do not answer.   So I see it on the screen and ignore the calls.... Plus  it's at the bottom of the contact list so it doesn't get in your way.    Each one has room for multiple numbers. When Xx fills up start Xxx then XXXX.       Can say. Xx do not answer.     Or. Xx sales call.    Or xx no one there.     You choose.

This month verizon charged me almost $6.00. For returning call to this number..

Seriously..

This call came through with the name "Shell" - as in Shell Oil Company. My phone also warned me that it was suspected as spam. I used automated call screening to answer the call. No one spoke, but instead disconnected the call.

Just got a call from this number. Didn't answer as my phone said "scam likely"
