- svdDidn't answer and got voicemail with a robot half way through saying something about a case file and to call the number back (which I didn't do). Seems like a scam.
- Caller: Unknown Robocaller
- anonymous| 1 replyHad same experience. Half a recorded message saying there was a case file. Called it and heavily accented woman said I had reached the IRS. I refused to give my last 4 of SSN and asked her to prove she was with IRS and she said she couldn't help me without it and hung up on me.
- Suzanne| 1 replyIRS scam. Just left message about lawsuit being filed by IRS. 3rd one from different phone numbers. They try this at income tax time. Just takes one sucker out of a 100 to make it worthwhile. I don't know why the Feds can't track them down.
- AndrewTold them I was a federal police officer (which I am) dude heavy accent freaked out said wrong number and hung up
- annoyedMy daily harassment from scammers. Yesterday it was from 718 area code with male robot, today 954 area code with a female robot. There are times when it is an actual person with an accent so heavy and english so choppy I don't understand and that comes from yet another number. I do know that the IRS wouldn't call and harass like that, I feel sorry for anyone who is duped by these thieves.
- Caller: "IRS"
- gmrCalled my Dad saying it was Officer Paul Miller from the IRS and they were filing lawsuits against him. Luckily his healthcare worker answered and told "Officer Miller" that his daughter would get back to him.
- peteycatClaims to be IRS with warrant for my arrest.
- Caller: IRS
- TimboI've gotten 2 messages today with this scam. I am so tired of getting these overseas scam calls. Over the past year I seem to average 20 a month, sometimes 5 per day. Wish these thieves would get caught and stop. I don't even answer my phone any more because I expect it to be these losers.
- ZazabelHorrible people: left me 2 robotic messages about IRS audit, lawsuit and a warrant for my arrest.
I called back and they wanted $6400 immediately or I would be arrested within 45 min!! Since the Indian accents were so heavy, they were rude and my previous IRS experiences have been very courteous, I asked if this was a fraud. He was so offended and hung up threatening that he would call the sheriff right away. I drove straight to the police to ask what to do and quickly googled the number, where I found this info.
Thank you for this site. I hope these guys are caught.- Caller: Unknown
- Call type: Debt collector

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes. Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - CWG40 replies to SuzanneSimple. They are located in India and Pakistan. As such they are beyond the reach of US law.
