Asked where he got my phone number from, he stated that it was from when I registered. B.S. Kept trying to find out the name of his company but he would not tell me. Kept trying to convince me there was something wrong with my pc. Heavy east indian accent, claimed his name was "Austin". Eventually he hung up when he figured out he wasn't getting anywhere.

- Tiredofscammers| 2 repliesI live in Canada. Tonight on My ID caller: 971-217-9514 from Oregon, I got a call from a supposed Windows technician named Kevin. He had an East Indian accent. He told me he was from Windows support and he was phoning about my computer. He knew my name. I told him I did not have a computer, whereupon he ended the call. I have had this same type of call from the same scammers using a different number. They have often called me daily for 2 months. It's certainly a swindle. Sometimes they call me to tell me I have a virus on my computer.
If they call you, just say you do not have a computer. My main concern is that they have my name. I am wondering if they got my details by hacking into something.- Caller: 971-217-9514

BEWARE - Users have been reporting they have received phone calls, some claiming to be from "Microsoft", telling them that that their computers are infected. The caller asks the User if they are online and if their computers are performing slowly.
If their computers are not running, they will ask the User to boot the system and report on the start up time or, if the system is running and online, they will tell the User that a tech can take over control of it and clean a "virus infection".
This is a scam !!!
If you happen to receive one of these phone calls ask the caller for the name of the company, where they are located, and their phone number.
Then hang up and report this to:
IC3 (internet crime)
The Local FBI Office ( if you're in the US)
Microsoft will never , repeat, NEVER , cold call people who use Windows. NEVER !!!
Do not fall for this latest scam.
NEVER allow strangers to take over your computer. NEVER !!!

I told her that she was the lowest parasitic form of life and must be terribly proud of her job, because she is little better than a [***]. Not surprisingly, she hung up. Yay!

- Mary| 1 replyI just got a phone call from them as well. I didn't answer it but from the posts here it sounds like the same group who were pulling the Microsoft scam last year. Last year after a ton of these calls, increasingly rude insisting that I give them remote access to my computer I phoned Microsoft and they said they do NOT call people and said it was a scam and should be reported to them as well as to the police.
From media reports and a lot of research last year when I went through this with them, they try to gain access to yur computer and install a program which they then want you to pay for and if you don't they mess with your computer so you HAVE to buy the program just to get it working right again.
DO NOT GIVE THEM ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER !!!
Oh and they will try to convince you to go along with them by getting you to open your error log and then they point out all of the entries with a warning. Don't fall for it. They are normal warnings that are common in everyday use of your computer and are nothing to get alarmed about.
I only went as far as opening my error log, not giving them remote access or anything and i have had a deadly virus which just keeps replicating itself and is impossible to get rid of on this computer ever since I told them what Microsoft told me and told them to bugger off. It makes changes to the bootup system, redirects you to other sites constantly, tons of popups, blocks your access to the Microsoft site and messes with your antivirus programs and ability to get updates. It also blocks you from setting your computer back to an earlier date. Just a warning.- Caller: scammers
- maryWatch the video from Australia on the top left of the page in this link. It's a very detailed explanation about these guys and the Microsoft scam. It really is a must read so you know how to handle these calls.
