FACEBOOK INTERNATIONAL LOTTERY: SCAM ALERT
- H.H.| 144 repliesI hope this is the right place to report my case or not, here is my story: I was informed through an message by facebook, that I have won 2010 facebook lottery, 750000$, by Mrs. Rosann Groves. Then I was connected to Mr. David Buckley, as online facebook coordinator. he also asked me to be in touch with a person in thailand,Siam commercial bank coordinator, to get my reward.
then I got another email from mrs.Rose George, asking me to contact Mr. Richard Morgan, FaceBook Online Coordinator in thailand. now he is telling me stop all the communications, he does not know this people at all.
I have paid 1450$ (except the fee for transferring this money) to open an escrow online bank account to get this reward, by now. But I think I am in trouble, not only there is no award, but also there is fraud! I tried to find a couple of e-mail address in facebook to report this and ask for advise. I also reported 2 messages I got from facebook, in facebook report.
I really feel worried about this problem. Now some one named MR.Graham White is sending me e-mails. I do not know if these are real people working in face book or not??????? how can I understand?
Basically does facebook lottery exist? It is one week that has kept me busy & finally this is the result.. - poly| 7 repliessoounds like a scam. you never have to pay money to get an award! there is so many scams and viruses on Facebook that you should never open an email from a person you dont know. And why would Facebook have a lottery and then have you open an account online?? better yet the run around to talk to someone in Thailand. the only thing you can do is make a police report, report it to Facebook but your money is pretty much gone.
- toby| 1 replyYou got screwed. Classic Nigerian lottery scam. Really, this scam is so old nobody should be be falling for this BS anymore. You can make a police report, but forget getting anything back. Sorry.
- LAMET replies to H.H.| 13 repliesYES YOU WERE SCAMMED - YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO RECEIVE A LEGITIMATE PRIZE! Its ILLEGAL to ask for money to receive it.
Prize Offers: You Don’t Have to Pay to Play!
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/telemarketing/tel17.shtm - Paul| 3 repliesYou can report this to Facebook and ask them to look into it. If it is an e-mail, send a copy of it to aabuse@ISP.com or write an e-mail to them telling that them you think your e-mail address has been hijacked, being used for illegal purposes. Ask them to investigate the person. Someone sent me one once telling me that they had left a sigificant amount of money with a company in Ghana, Not only did I wrtie the person saying this was a scam, but I sent the original e-mail to the company that "they did not tell about the money" being left with them.
- MyronI don't understand why people like you respond to e-mails from unknown people.
Also paying a fee to anyone other than your bank for an incoming wire transfer
is silly. Any bank I ever dealt with only deducts the wire transfer fee at the end of the month
when your statement is compiled and printed. Over the past 20 years or so, all
the lottery scams that have been in the public media, why did you fall for this.
I see in your post where you have contacted Facebook after you have been scammed.
WHY THE HECK DID YOU NOT CONTACT FACEBOOK BEFORE HAND?
USING THE WAY YOU SEEMED TO --->AFTERWARD'S.
Everyone knows you don't pay up front fee's to receive a prize.
One last thing, if your from the United States lottery's other than state lottery's
are illegal ! - Leo| 6 repliesAfter reading your complaint about the facebook lottery scam.
You can complain to facebook all you want. It is not their responsibility
to babysit you. It has crossed my mind that you might think facebook
will refund what you paid. Think again ! I would'nt be surprised to find
that your trying to scam facebook by claiming you lost money associated
with their name being used to allegedly scam you. I really wonder if you
might be the con-artist. Either way, your type has always been around
and always will. I DELETE all e-mails from un-known's. I bet you enter
any and every contest you see. The boxes in dept. stores, etc.
You just ask to be scammed when you do.
Just put this experience in the live and learn category and move on . - MONIQUE HIGH| 10 repliesI JUST HEARD FROM MRS. ROSE GEORGE. MY HUSBAND, A LWYER, REPORTED HER TO FACEBOOK. IN LOOKING HER UP, I FOUND THIS THREAD. I'M LUCKY I HAVE A LAWYER HUSBAND. THIS TYPE OF SCAM IS HORRIBLE. I FEEL VERY BAD FOR YOU AND AM SORRY YOU LOST THE MONEY, AND PEOPLE SHOULD BLAME ROSE GEORGE AND RICHARD MORGAN, NOT YOU, THE VICTIM.
MONIQUE RAPHEL HIGH - Toby replies to MONIQUE HIGHBoy, you sure use a lot of caps.
But to the point, you're right that the blame lies with the scammers. That said, crooks are crooks so appealing to their better nature and hope they reform is no solution to these scams. The only real solution is for people to educate themselves and recognize an obvious scam when they see it. This particular scam is so old, so obvious, so well documented and so clearly designed to appeal to a person's own greed for "something for nothing" that you have to question the victim's own common sense. I too feel sympathy for the victim here, but he could have easily avoided being a victim if he made even the slightest attempt to determine the legitimacy of this "lottery." - JonBasic scam job. As long as people ask for money up front and your personal information it is a scam. Keep away unless it is advertised on FB or any other corporation or group AND they do not ask for money up front, be very careful with any contests that part you with your personal information, scam jobs always try to get to your sense of desperation for big money prize payouts, if it is is too good to be true it usually is a scam.
I always suggest you check and double check to make sure contests are real and not scam offers to line their wallet and leave you with nothing. - Y.W. replies to H.H.| 3 repliesHi Mr / Mrs. HH ... I got a same thing that u got it ... I got the email 2 days ago from Mrs. Rosann Groves ... dammit..

Thats my experience about in 2 days my friend. - anan| 8 replieshi how ru alll ... any one knows about daived buckley in thailand ? is this person good ? he tell my sister she win 75000,00
- not Michael replies to anan| 2 repliesIts fake. Your sister did not win 75000.00. Daived Buckley will ask her to pay taxes on her winnings or a money transfer fee or to use her money to open a bank account he can use. Or he'll find some other way to get money from her. He will take the money then vanish. You'll never hear from him again. Your sister will loose her money.
Stop all contact with Daivid Buckley. Do not answer phone calls from him. Delete e-mails from him. - MEILAN| 5 repliesLooks like I also experienced the same thing, I attach it, sending the last email he told me : SIAM COMMERCIAL BANK <scbthbx@credit4u.com>
