YouTube as a phone scam vector
- Sir Bedevere| 5 repliesScammers have posted a 20-second YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_gVUZAap8M) that consists of nothing more than an overhead view of a car on a road with a text overlay reading "quickbooks customer service number 1 (800) 270-9342" The YouYube channel is for one "alia Joseph" (sic). I expect/hope the channel will disappear quickly so check the link quickly before it goes. And do report it to YouTube. The more complaints the better.
The title of the video is "quickbooks customer service number"
I've never seen this approach before. I doubt it gets many (or any) responses, but what gall! - Nimrod replies to Sir Bedevere| 4 repliesAdd:

The contact number listed on the actual QuickBooks site is 1-800-285-4854.
The business directory Manta has a listing showing this number for a company here:
https://www.manta.com/c/m1x052f/quickbooks-payroll-support-experts
It has a single glowing 5-Star review posted December 05 that lists the wrong phone number within it - three times! - B-EdwardsTalk about sleeze. Shows that the phone scam calls and emails are not doing as well as before? Or maybe too many scammers and not enough marks.
- GregAtTheBeach replies to Nimrod| 2 repliesThe second one you listed has an account termination message.
I commented on and reported the other ones, except for the Manta one. They want me to join before commenting.
Oh, he|| no! - B-Edwards replies to GregAtTheBeachHeard of "Create the Problem, Sell the Solution"?
That is "Create the Problem, Sell More Problem." - Nimrod replies to NimrodI was looking at the listing on Manta. No building at the displayed address of the business exists, Google Maps shows an address marker, but if there was once a building there, it has long since been torn down so San Fransisco could build Mechanics Monument Plaza.
Following the link embedded in the address takes one to a private residence on Ortega St. in San Francisco that Google Maps pins and labels "QuickBooks Customer Service". The sidebar description shows yet another number - (866) 667-4133. It looks like these are "kitchen table" scammers. Ironically, if one scrolls down the sidebar there are three links to Intuit's official website, two of which display actual Intuit phone numbers. - Nimrod replies to GregAtTheBeachThe second one being gone is good! However since yesterday, the first one has added three more videos. They are like cockroaches, and another shows up. Here is a new one:
https://www.youtube.com/@GodFather-i5t - registered 3 days ago, 3 videos so far all promoting the same number. - GregAtTheBeachI reported all three, and posted comments about them being scams.
- Class-Actions-R-Us| 1 reply@GodFather-i5t channel is gone, :-)
Reported dailymotion one.
91ou846wOG8 one is still up. - GregAtTheBeach replies to Class-Actions-R-UsI just reported it ... again.
- Becca| 2 repliesLooks like they're back at it ...assuming that they ever stopped in the first place.
Video ad upload channel for 424-588-8670

(And yes, I put reports on the appropriate pages here and at YouTube.) - MikeHuntleton replies to Becca| 1 replyThat channel was created Nov. 2025 and has no content. If you got a call from the number, then they might be preparing a new campaign or possibly someone misdialed.
- Nimrod replies to MikeHuntletonAccording to Google's AI Overview:Quote:A video ad upload channel on YouTube is the dedicated channel used to host and upload video content that is intended to be used in YouTube Advertising campaigns, such as in-stream or in-feed ads. These channels are typically linked to a Google Ads account to manage ad deployment and track metrics for marketing campaigns, rather than just hosting organic content.
Key Aspects of a Video Ad Upload Channel:
• Purpose: To store video ads (e.g., bumper ads, in-stream ads) that are designed to build brand awareness or drive action.
• Workflow: Videos are uploaded to the channel (often set to "Unlisted" or "Public"), and then selected within Google Ads to be shown to viewers.
• Functionality: Unlike personal channels, these focus on delivering specific marketing messages and tracking viewer interaction.
