Apparent power services scam
- AnnoyedI have received four calls in the past two days from 1-000-000-0000 (so yeah, that's a big red flag). On the fourth call I decided to find out what the scam was, so I answered. The caller asked to speak to the person in the house "in charge of the electric bill", so I said that would be me. They then went into a long speech about how my state now allows consumers to buy their power from sources other than the power company and how I could save money buy doing so. But after a couple minutes or so I got bored and hung up.
Even ignoring the masked caller ID number, the telemarketer himself came across as really slimy (not that I would buy anything from a cold call anyway). I don't know what the goal of the call really was...maybe to havee me switch my power supplier to some company that would seriously overcharge, maybe to get a credit card number, maybe to get my info for identify theft. Maybe all three. Anyone know the details of the scam? - JuliaHi Annoyed,
