The mobile phone allow companies to mass-send text messages to their subscribers. In some cases these messages are from authorized users such as schools, airlines, banks, etc... Unfortunately in most cases these messages are just spam.
Please ask your elected representatives to regulate text messages as follows:
1) all text messages must uniquely identify the sender
2) text messages from commercial entities are free to the receipient
3) mobile networks may charge commercial entities a fee to send messages to mobile customers, usage by schools and government entities is free
Instituting a "Caller Pays" and "Required Identity" policy for text messages should greatly reduce the temptation for text message spam.
