I just received a text (apparently came in at 2:04 a.m.) from 714.616.6158 that says the following: "Your entry last  month has WON! Go to BestBuyRaffle.com and enter your winning code 9170 to claim your FREE $1000 BestBuy gift card within 24 hrs."

The official Best Buy website is www.bestbuy.com, so this has made me curious.  I looked up the raffle and it brought me to this website which isn't a good sign.  The thing that bothers me is that we recently renewed our cell phones and bought them at Best Buy.  On the other hand, I did sell some things on Craigslist and put my cell phone in the listing, although I spelled it out partially numerically and partially in words so it wouldn't easily get picked up by spammers.  Wierd.

Once I entered the code it opens a page that asks for my email and at the top shows bestbuy.rewardhubzone.com. and has the following information which tells me it's definitely a scam:

"This Gift Redemption Program is an independent rewards program for consumers and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of the listed products or retailers. Trademarks, service marks, logos, and/or domain names (including, without limitation, the individual names of products and retailers) are the property of their respective owners.
THE FOLLOWING IS A SUMMARY OF PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS. SEE TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETE DETAILS. Members are being accepted subject to the following Program Requirements: 1) Must be a legal US resident; 2) must be at least 18 years old or older; 3) must have a valid email and shipping address; 4) Eligible members can receive the incentive gift package by completing two reward offers from each of the Silver and Gold reward offer page options and nine reward offers from the Platinum reward offer page options and refer 3 friends to do the same. Various types of reward offers are available. Completion of reward offers most often requires a purchase or filing a credit application and being accepted for a financial product such as a credit card or consumer loan. The following link illustrates a Representative Sample of reward offers by group along with monetary and non-monetary obligations. Failure to submit accurate registration information will result in loss of eligibility. This promotion is administered solely by this website. The manufacturers and retailers of the gift items offered through our programs have not endorsed this promotion and are not affiliated with the promotion in anyway. The basic info for that URL is here if you want to look: http://www.whois.com/whois/rewardhubzone.com

The basic info for the bestbuyraffle.com is here: http://www.whois.com/whois/bestbuyraffle.com including the server names NS1.MYGT.ORG.  It was just set up a few days ago on the 7th.

It looks like they're hiding behind some kind of Whois anonymity service.

I received a text from 9099736491 today, 10/15 saying that I had won a BestBuy gift card. I never signed up for anything anywhere. I tried to contact BestBuy about this and was told the did not have a department to report this to. What a shame that no one can be trusted these days.

    Yed there's definitely a hitch!

They win, you lose! It's not legitimate! It's a scam!!!!

BEST BUY, WALMART, TARGET AND NOKIA ARE NOT IN ANY WAY HOLDING ANY SWEEPSTAKES, CONTESTS AND ARE NOT TEXTING ANYONE ABOUT THEIR CELL PHONE NUMBER WINNING ANYTHING!!!

Each has in fact warned about these scams!!! You get a text, email or phone call claiming you won something (especially if you haven't entered in anyway) ... delete it!!! It's nothing more rhiannon BS sent by scammers seeking to dupe anyone they can!!! Delete it!!

    Its a scam.

The scammer will make you pay shipping and handling and insurance in advance, by credit card.  Or he'll make you pay taxes in advance by credit card.  He'll spend all of your money.  He will never send you a gift card.

If you gave him your credit card number or bank account number call the bank right now and close the account.
