Federal Grant Scam

I've noticed these popping up on a few numbers today, so I thought I'd add this thread. Please forgive me if it's already here.

Some things to note:

Federal Grants are never given without prior application.

The government will not contact you to offer a grant.

They will not charge you for a grant. This is money that does not have to be repaid.

They are not awarded for simply paying your taxes. This is what an income tax return is for.


If you have been called and offered a grant that you did not apply for, please DO report it. You can do so by going to http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/support/general-support/grant-fraud.html and either calling the number or sending an email to the number and email address listed at the top of the page.

It would be great if a "sticky" could put comments like this - as well as "Nokia/Facebook" lottery, fake bill collectors and the other constantly appearing threads- could be at the top of the list permanently.  Perhaps that way many of the repeat threads could be reduced.  Just a thought though.
