Spoofed my own phone number to call me!

- Temecula, CA| 3 repliesSomeone with an accent called my home phone last night (possibly Indian or Pakistani but not sure). They started talking about my computer having problems, so I hung up. That's not the first time I've received such a call and is not the reason I'm posting on this forum. What has me concerned is that they somehow got my own name and home phone number to show up on the C I D! Seems like this opens me up to all kinds of potential fraud. I reported it to Verizon and even they seemed concerned. We'll see what happens with them.
Just wondering if anyone else has heard of such a thing or can explain what's going on and suggest ways I can deal with it. - ANON replies to Temecula, CAPlease look through the MANY topics listed here at 800notes:

Phone number spoofing is NOTHING NEW see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID_spoofing - arrow replies to Temecula, CA| 1 replyThat happened to me last month. I called AT&T about it. Unlike what happened with you and Verizon, I was told there was nothing to worry about "because [the caller] just did that so I would answer my phone." To what end, I wanted to know, but got no credible response to that either. I fear too that my name and number could be showing up on heaven knows what kinds of calls to who knows.
Would love to find out more. - ANonieMouse replies to arrow>>> Would love to find out more. <<<
Instead of merely posting yet another superfluous post in this thread, why don't you take ANON's suggestion and read the many, many, many other posts about this type of spoofing at
https://800notes.com/nb/search.aspx?q=Spoofed%20my%20own%20phone%20number .
The posts and threads found at that URL represent the accumulated and categorized wisdom of all the users of 800notes on this topic.
If you need it personally explained to you, I might consider doing so for the small fee of $100.00/hr. Just call me at + 4470 1760 2550 (Warning: a real number that I have, but NOT free to call from ANY location. I use this line mainly for safely making jokes poking fun of commercial spammers, mostly because it doesn't cost me anything and the calling party pays the bill, thereby making that number highly resistant to scam callers and pranksters.) and leave a voice mail message.
Perhaps we can set something up and I can be your personal tutor. But this is in no way meant to be an advertisement for any service I might offer. I don't want to tutor you. Instead, I strongly suggest you just read the postings in the other threads on the subject.
