- Yoda1725| 2 repliesI am not looking forward to digging out my car on Tuesday morning.
- PookieOokie replies to MidNYteStorm| 2 repliesKeep safe and warm. Have family in Connecticut and have lived there and along Lake Erie so I know what that is like. Well, you get the snow in the winter while we are warm but you get the nice weather in the summer while we fry so I guess there is some kind of justice in that somewhere. Hope you are prepared. Don't give yourself a heart attack shoveling! Will be thinking of you.
- PookieOokie replies to Yoda1725| 1 replyBe careful!!! Not worth a heart attack!! Keep safe!!!
- Yoda1725 replies to PookieOokieI'm glad the shopping was done yesterday, and my wife doesn't have to face the panic in the supermarket. Thanks :)
- Mzfish replies to GunnarRight back at ya Gunnar!!
- MidNYteStorm replies to PookieOokie| 1 replyI will try and do just that. This storm will be effecting Connecticut. In fact it would see the whole NE IS is in store for all this fun.
- PookieOokie replies to MidNYteStormGuess my first grandson will be experiencing his first blizzard! He will probably love it! All of you keep safe. Been there, done that, probably why I'm not there anymore!!!

- AnonyMsI've tried to register many times but somehow it never went through--gave up! Wasn't meant to be? Maybe its better this way.
- ANonieMouse replies to MidNYteStorm| 13 repliesIf you are in the northeast coastal area, here's a well-guarded secret, namely, the place on the Internet where everyone on the air gets their snow accumulation forecasts:
http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/pwpf/wwd_accum_p ... amt=18&day=null
It may take you some experimentation to find all the different ways you can view this map, but let's just say that this could be like the monster Boston snowfall of 1978, but centered further south on New York City and environs. There appears to be a 20% chance of a total accumulation of 30 inches or more there, with a much greater chance of between 18 and 24 inches.
The home page for all that can be found at http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov .
I also find this page useful:
http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/discussions/hpcdiscussions.php?disc=qpfhsd
The current discussion says, in part (and it is all typed out in fixed line-length, teletype capital letters):
"… THE SET-UP
IS PERFECT ON THE SMALLER SCALE FOR MESOSCALE BANDING FEATURES
THAT WILL INCLUDE A CONVECTIVE ELEMENT TO THE SNOWFALL. THE LATEST
GUIDANCE TENDS TO FAVOR THE BEST LIKELIHOOD FOR THIS TO BE AROUND
NEW YORK CITY NORTHEAST TOWARD THE BOSTON AREA ALONG WITH AREAS
JUST WEST OF THIS LINE. THE RESULT WILL BE EVEN HEAVIER SNOWFALL
RATES THAT COULD BE ON THE ORDER OF 2 TO 4 INCHES/HR AND WILL
RESULT IN VERY HEAVY STORM TOTALS. ADDITIONALLY THERE IS A
LIKELIHOOD FOR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS TO IMPACT MANY AREAS FROM
CENTRAL/NORTHERN NEW JERSEY NORTH UP ACROSS SOUTHEAST NEW YORK AND
ALL OF SOUTHERN AND EASTERN NEW ENGLAND DUE TO THE EXPECTATION OF
HIGH WINDS. THE STORM SHOULD GRADUALLY WEAKEN LATER TUESDAY AND
BEGIN TO PULL AWAY BY LATER WEDNESDAY FROM THE NORTHEAST...BUT
HEAVY SNOWFALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED DEFORMATION ZONE
WILL EXTEND THROUGH ALL OF NEW ENGLAND. STORM TOTAL AMOUNTS AS
HIGH AS 1 TO 3 FEET CAN BE EXPECTED...WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS
GENERALLY FROM NEAR NEW YORK CITY UP TO NEAR BOSTON."
I feel for the people up there. I know what it's like to go through thundersnow in a coastal blizzard. - :)~Thanks Mousie. Goodluck y'all @ supermarket. I don't need to make a mad rush -- my kitchen is always full of essential supplies just in case we're snowed in for several days or power goes off or water shuts down.
