Can You Block a Spoofed Number?
- MikeHuntleton replies to Brian Flanagan| 1 reply
Bottom line is, it can't, so why presume it can. Lets also say your cell phone can sprout wings and fly itself to you if you lost it.Quote:but lets say it can indeed detect whether or not an incoming phone number is spoofed
I don't know why you replied to me with all that "mumbo-jumbo", since its very simple to understand what the OP asked about and what the continued discussions are implying. The answer to the OP's question "can you block the 'real number' when the Caller ID number is spoofed?" is a flat out no you can't.
There is no "anti-spoof" capability available. Anti-spoofing means to stop spoofing from occurring from a callers phone. All the discussions have been describing Call Blocking, despite whatever clever "name" a company uses to market their blocking options. Blocking means to stop the call with a CID display that is on a blacklist.
As it is right now, any of those call spoofers who are blocked by the "anti-spoof" option, is still able to input another number and the call will go thru unless that number too is on the black list. The actual number of the phone the caller is using to spoof with will NOT be blocked, since there currently is NO method of detection for the real number available to us as an option.
The term being used, "anti-spoofing" is merely a marketing term that is only a blocking method, but not a true anti-spoofing ability, since it can't stop a person from spoofing with their phone, its only blocks what is on the caller ID if it matches whats on the block list.. - post pending moderator approval
- Shill B Gone replies to Billy BobThis is why we should never try mess with scammers or get even with them.
Scammers are aggressive, abusive and often make life miserable when the person receiving the call tries to get even. Unethical and pretend debt collectors are the worst. - MikeHuntleton replies to Billy BobThe point of people posting in forums to share non numbered information is meant to post in a category topic related to what your posting about, not just any ole topic that happens to match a word in your post.
The search bar can also search words or phrases, not just a number.

- Kat replies to Brian Flanagan| 3 repliesYou can spell long, complicated words such as "enhanced" and "anonymous" but can't manage one of the shortest words in the English language? It's simple: y o u. See? Just 3 letters.

- Huh? replies to Vonnie"approximately college-level writing"? With all those spelling mistakes? Altho (Although), U (you), hav (have), wont (won't), tho (though). If that is the new "college-level writing", then this country truly is in the toilet.
- MikeHuntleton replies to VonnieThat person only trolled to try manipulating the point. Doubtful they went to college or even got a passing Grade in high school, if we were to base it on that post.
Kind of like what your doing, trying to change the topic to pollute the thread. - Shill B Gone replies to Brian FlanaganDid you even bother to read this thread? Do you use common sense? I think the answer to both questions is no. As pointed out by Mike and others there is no way a call blocker can terminate a spoofed number call from coming through. Please read the thread before posting and try to get a good education as it will benefit everyone. Perhaps this thread needs to be locked before any more trolls join the party. The answer has been implied several times and it is time to move on. Oh, troll is spelled t r o l l just so you know.

- ann replies to WilliamI actually had that happen in either 2012 or 2013. The number of man who I occasionally interacted at work while I worked in another state showed up on my phone and I answered - it was garbage but now I am worried that either I am blocking legit calls or my number may be blocked if someone spoofs my number.
- Cell Phones Aren't Fun Any MoreIt's a shame, a cell phone started out as a great convenience, but for me it's become a huge pain in the rear. Spoofed numbers every day, from three close area codes. I've even had the local hospital number on the caller ID a few times, which is frustrating if you have older relatives that live close by. I finally made a "silent ring" as my default, and gave my contacts regular sounding ringers. Everyone can still leave a voice message, but luckily 99% of the spoofers don't....so far. I'm mad because it's really reduced the usefulness of the darn thing but at least I'm not a business owner/professional that has to let the phone ring.
- tm replies to Larryyou'll need a third party app. I started using Calls Blacklist for example. an unknown call (i.e. not in my contacts) comes in, it rings for half a second, it's sent to VM. If it's a legit caller, they leave a message. If not it's logged, and you don't need to worry about running out of blocks.
- Jeff| 1 replyWhen I block a phone number that I do not recognize. I go back to my phone list and it blocks another phone number from my contacts why is that?
