I visit this site often for various reasons, one main reason is to report on unwanted numbers to help others know about my experience from a call. I recently noticed something strange in the behavior of what i consider "normal" (3-5 times a week) scam call traffic to my phones. But when i post specific information about a call with details or the time/date a call was received, i seem to get an increase of scam calls within the following days of said reporting here.
My advice and warning to every visitor here is to use caution in what you report and be careful not to give too much detail to the point a scammer monitoring numbers can recognize a call they might have made to you. I have commented about specific details, like what the person sounded like, what they said exactly and given dates/times of a call. Scammers might be able to use this information to pin-point your number if they log who they call and when they called with a certain type of scam. Its been a few weeks since i had one of those "increased" scam call days, but it just seems they 'know' when i've reported on a number and call more frequent right after reporting here.

Calls to tell you that not filing taxes is a crime, and to stay on line for some free advice. Up to you if you want to get involved with their services. If you do have tax problems, it is always best to deal with a local professional.

I never give out any personal info---Way to dangerous to post any info on the internet unless you are certain the site is secure (I hope)

Sorry, I'm not listening to Regular Visitor. She/he seems a tad paranoid, in my opinion. What he's/she's suggesting is impossible.

Scammers will not really be able to figure out the numbers of posters. Posters could be posting a long time after the call. Also they could be lying about when they go the call. Posting here really does not have anything to do with increased calls, unless someone posted their telephone number.
You know, you are amazingly right! I thought I was imagining the increase of phone calls during certain times and now that you have posted that I started thinking about when I have posted a comment that sometimes my phone call traffic will increase.. Thank you for pointing this out and as you stated be careful what you say about a call. Just state the important facts about it and that's all... Thank you!!
I think you are reading way too much into this. See logical fallacy "Post hoc ergo propter hoc". E.g.: The rooster crows immediately before sunrise; therefore the rooster causes the sun to rise.

No they aren't reading anything. These are obviously the scammer (s) they "claim" they are warning against, trying to dissuade people from posting on this site. Most likely the scumbag that has been going around disrupting the site and trying to make it useless so that it can easily steal more money from old people and steal as much candy as it can from babies.
posting under 4 different screen names and talking to yourself? You really should talk to a professional about that.

These are fraudsters making harassment telephone calls to any known number associated with a particular individual. They call from 855-904-7781 and 210-568-7456. They are calling on out-of-statute debts and identity theft debts. They are fraudsters and their computer dials multiple numbers and rings multiple numbers at the same instant. The message gives a "File Number" and to call them back. It is alleged that they alter a caller conversation to acknowledge existence of a debt and promise of repayment. DO NOT CALL THEM BACK. REFER THE MATTER TO YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND OR ATTORNEY. They are calling Work Numbers, Mobile Numbers and Home Numbers.
It's certainly important to use caution about posting things like our phone numbers and other clear identification.
Psy said it well, and in much fewer pixels, but it's a common type of thought, so I'd like to address it.
It's easy, when trying to make sense of things that seem totally irrational, to come up with theories, and doing it is comforting. Unfortunately, a lot of our theories (I've had to discard more than a few, over the years.) don't pan out, in the light of hard facts and a wider understanding of the situation. So it is, with our perception that doing one thing will somehow affect something else, completely unrelated.
These scammers make far too many calls to figure out from a posting on 800Notes who you are or what your phone number is. For example, reporting what a person sounds like really wouldn't help that person figure out who you are, if he has called more than five people. He sounds the same to everybody, reads the same script to them all, and goes on to the next call, no matter how his call to you ends. So, conceivably 100 different people could put up the identical post.
Posting a specific time and date might give them a bit of a clue ..... but, as far as I know, it's not information the rest of us can use to any benefit, so I've never understood why people put that. The most important questions are: Who called? What did they want? What specifics can you add?
"Cancer" can be used in the names of a lot of charities, quasi charities, and outright scams. "Card Services" is a popular name used by multiple outfits. If you look up the differences between "American Cancer Society" and "Cancer Society of America" on Web sites like Charity Navigator, you will see the details can be important. They can mean the difference between someone I'd grab a credit card for, and someone who might be in danger, if they showed up where I could get my hands around their neck.
It's those kinds of things which make 800Notes so powerful, if people will pay attention and post accurate details.
There are a lot of different popular theories to be found on this site which are developed without the benefit of various facts, or without considering all of the ramifications of facts which are presented in support. Many, unfortunately, make about as much sense as suggesting that the telemarketers will quit calling if you simply lay a slice of tomato on your phone.
The differences you think you noticed in call patterns are probably real. The causes, however, are probably nothing more than mere coincidence. I have had calls from as many as 12 different numbers in a single day. I've also gone days and maybe even a week, once in a while, with not one single call, at all. I have no explanation for the difference.
Lots of things can affect calling patterns. Political season, New products to sell. Medicare open enrollment period. A change in some law making insurance or some service like cable TV more attractive -- all kinds of things affect call volumes, and whether or not there seems to be a "clump" of calls from people selling a certain product or service or begging for a certain type of charity. Perhaps, unknowingly, you do something online or in person to stimulate some activity. I had my phone repaired. I then started getting calls wanting to sell me additional services, like broadband and TV.
What changed? Same me. Same phone company. I just did something that got their attention, and suddenly they started calling.
You're probably right. Scammers probably do monitor this site. Think about your post, for a moment. Don't you think a scammer would advise people NOT TO post, and to be circumspect about what is posted? I'm not saying that's what you're up to. Problem is, there are too many other regulars who just look for ways to pick fights, to denigrate people, to discredit things they don't like, and those people might look for some excuse to excoriate you, rather than point out a few ideas you may not have considered.
because with several hundred crooks in a call center all making calls at the same time, they should be able to accurately pinpoint one call. Sort of like how we can narrow exactly how long, down to seconds, the Big Bang occurred and our universe was created.
forgot to mention how many times in the past this idiotic idea has been brought up by other crooks and scammers hoping to scare people into not posting here.
