"Celebrating" The Do Not Call's 10th Anniversary
This summer, the national Do Not Call Registry, managed by the Federal Trade Commission, turned 10 years old, and there are now a whopping 221 million phone numbers in the registry.
But the calls keep coming. Telemarketing complaints at the FTC have risen from 150,393 in 2003 to nearly 4 million last year (roughly 2 million of those were robocall complaints).

- cassI signed up when it started--renewed when it said to and when it said we didn't have to--still getting the same calls from the same places and numbers--the phone company can tell the govt who pays the bills--but the phone co will lose money if it does

- ihatetelemarketersI've submitted so many spam numbers to DNC, with URLs of similar complainants, and nothing is done about them. The same telemarketers keep calling. So what good is the DNC??

"So who is it to blame? Caroline Mayer from Forbes says it's the technology, and I agree. "
Yes, technology makes it easier, but no, it's not the technology.
It's the scum using the technology.
It's the telephone companies that claim "there's nothing they can do about it", except that they can. It would just eat into their billion dollar profit margins.
It's the politicians, owned by the telephone companies, that refuse to criminalize these actions and hold the people responsible for them accountable.
It's the regulatory agencies that can or choose to do nothing because they get their direction and budget from the politicians. - glennafter diligently reporting illegal calls to the DNC # in phone book for two months,I was "rewarded" with MORE calls, with the call return telling me that the calls were coming from MY OWN PHONE NUMBER!DNC is a miserable failure.I agree with those who say the phone companies should be responsible for protecting customers from this harassment-in 4 months, over 70 calls just from the WORST offenders i.e. Rachael,Carmen,Chelsea & friends!
- bdTime to eliminate the Natl do not call registry. It probably has a budget of 20 million or more. It is useless now other than for providing 6 figure $$ jobs to politician's families and friends
- JoAnn replies to wallyI met Captain Ryan Campbell on a dating site. He was charming and kind. He thought I knew nothing about the military and asked for money to come home on emergency leave. I blocked his phone number and his email. We never met in person. He is still calling me on an unknown number but I did block (999) 999-2112. I went to several sites to see if his name was listed anywhere but it isn't. What is listed is his story!!
I didn't tell him I knew what he was doing. I just blocked him. :( - DebbieThe do not call does not work they keep calling had house phone number changed. Won't have cellphone number changed it's to special to me. What can be done. Thank you
- TerriHow do I block a telemarketer number? I have Vonage, and that's not a feature. This site is great. I just found one of the numbers calling, showing up asROCKWELL, NC is a political Thom Thillis ad, is a cover nmbr and when entering thar number here, the real nmbr showed itself. So ...
