DDoS Attacks Target 800Notes.com

Since 6am Tuesday, June 10th 800Notes.com has been under a large scale distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. The website is targeted by hackers that use automated programs to try to jam the site with bogus requests. We estimate that they use several thousand computers from which they make several thousand requests per second.

As a result 800Notes.com was unavailable during the first 36 hours. We took measures to filter traffic and although, the DDoS still continues, we have it under complete control and do not expect any downtime.

We’ve contacted FBI to help us track who is responsible for the attack.

Glad to see you are back. I assume the offenders are the ones who don't like seeing their practices exposed here.

At least their computers are diverted from their normal use of making annoying & unwanted automated phone calls -- even when you're down, you're still providing a valuable service. So thanks!

Legit companies do not resort to such actions. The attackers are either an "organization" that does something illegal (unauthorized charges/phone fraud) and hence is trying to bury the exposing posts together with the website or a competing website (which would be my vote).

I found out that you were not the only ones targeted by this attack. Another site with a service like yours, whocallsme.com had the same problem at the same time. For anyone who would like more info on this type of stuff check out this website: www.us-cert.gov   They have many ways to report such attacks plus phishing emails and such.  They are a combined effort of the Dept of Homeland Security, businesses, & public & private sectors to shut down computer scams & attacks.  I forward them a copy of every phishing email I get.

I hope you catch the guys who are responsible for the attacks. It's a shame to see people doing things like this nowadays.

Youd these these [***] who attack your servers would do the same for the whacko Islamic nutjob websites out there.  But no.  These DDOS people are poster children of what is WRONG with our world today.

Hmmm-not surprised. This website exposes the assclown spammers so dont get as much scam money. I worked for a big ISP in the abuse dept for years, theres not likely going to be any one person caught. The ppl that do this run herds of bot computers. Thousands and thousands-and those pcs mostly belong to innocent victims that have a compromised PC and they dont even know their PC was part of a DDOS attack for hire.

I thought I'd lost my most valued source for figuring out who the jerks that call our office all the time are - phew!  Glad you guys are back!

This is a reminder that we need to make sure our firewalls are secure and anti-virus software is decent and updated often, as the computers we post with could be some of the same computers used to attack the site.
