Do-not-call Registry Made Permanent by FCC

The Federal Communications Commission voted yesterday to require telemarketers to continue complying with the national do-not-call registry.

The vote puts into effect a law that made the five-year-old list permanent. It bars telemarketers from calling any registered number until a consumer removes it from the list or the number is reassigned to another phone customer.

My phone number is registered on the National Do Not Call List.  However, I continue to receive two or three calls per day now from the following 866 toll free number.  Now they no longer leave "canned" messages but my caller ID show that they are calling.

The number - which is a telemarketing number:  (866) 643-3392

I am on the National Do Not Call List.  I only have a cell phone but I continue getting calls from 804-415-4044.  I never answer the calls and they never leave messages but it is annoying.

For weeks I have been getting calls twice a day from 859-967-7334 -- this number belongs to ChekRedi, a debt colletion agency. I've called them repeatedly telling them I'm not the person they're looking for, that the person they want doesn't live with me, that I do not know that person and would they please take me off their calling list. Sometimes they say they have taken my phone number off their calling list. Other times they tell me they don't have a calling list. If they sense that I'm getting irritated they hang up on me.

What i had to do one time was to tell them i was going to press charges agian them if they dont stop hurassing me. And you can, If you wan file a complant to your local police about them hurassing you. And get a copy of you bill showing that it keep calling you. Because you can file a law suit agianst them for hurassment that usally gets them to stop.

The National DNC registry is probably one of the biggest fluff laws passed, if they are going to make a law, make a real law.  I will explain.  1. Charities Political calls and surveys are exempt.  2.  Scam artists just ignore the law and as history has shown there is BIG talk with fines and little action.  3.  And probably the biggest problem is the Existing Business Relationship (EBR).  Any company that you do business with may contact you up to 18 months after your last transaction regardless if you are on the Nat DNC Reg.  That means if I go to Sears, buy a screwdriver, get one of those survey receipts where I can get a discount on my next purchase, I can then be called to buy siding for the next 18 months.  If you simply inquire about a business they may call you for the next 3 months.  So if you take a look at a car etc, they can call for the next 3 months.                 I worked for a telemarketing company and I can tell you how to stop the calls, it really isn't that hard.  Simply ask the representative for their name, the name of the company they work for, a contact phone number if you have questions, and then request for them to place you on their DNC list and mail you a copy of their DNC policy.  They have 30 days to comply, and if they don't have you removed after 30 days, they can be assessed a fine of $10,000 per phone call they receive after that.  Keep a journal next to your phone and then just keep a log of the calls.  Easy as pie.

What if the person who calls refuses to give his/her name OR the company's name etc...? There must not be anything we can do about the fraudulent calls, right?? This sucks!!

a new feature many telephone companies now offer is call blocking, which usually provides them a message stating that their number has been blocked.  For persistant callers I recommend that.

Check with your telephone company to see if they offer it.
