In a report filed yesterday morning, the FTC said the "Do Not Call" list is "by every available measure, an effective consumer protection initiative."

This is bogus information. I was told by the a person from Cancer Research that this does not apply to charitable organizations.I actually get more random calls than I did before registering. I feel like I added my name to a list of telemarketers. Do not call registry should be investigated.

    DONOTCALL LIST IS BOGUS
I continue to get about 15 calls per day. I hate it. We've been registered for over a year. Its the worst it has ever been. Don't know what to do about it.

There is another way to fight against all these calls - stop giving out your real phone number for every free magazine or sample request you order online. Come on people - they can't call what they don't have and most legit companies do not sale off their customer database. If you are worried that they do, ask them. They have to disclose their "Opt-out" policy and they also have to let you "opt-out" if you want your information to remain private.

Use your heads ... you wouldn't tell the car saleman your PIN and leave your wallet in their office with them while you go to the restroom so don't give people the information they need to call you all the time.

The funny thing here (read the sarcasm) is that I am not on a DNC list, I am listed in the phone book (first inital only, last name) and I hardly ever get calls!
I never write checks anymore...mainly do electronic banking...and I only give my ph nbr to dr's offices, etc. that I choose to do busines with.  I do not enter contests or include my ph nbr just because someone asks for it...
Remember folks, just because someone asks for information, whether it be your ssn, a ph nbr, or whatever, doesn't mean you have to give it out!

I get fewer calls since joining NDC. We don't always answer, depending on caller ID. I don't put phone # on any request for it, maybe thats why I haven't won that dream vacation, GEEZ! I usually investigate the phone# on the internet. Find out who it is. The next time they call I say, well I'd like to but I just lost my job, my wifes medical bills are ridiculous since the overdose or maybe I can donate, after Jr's leg braces come off! These callers are ruthless to those of you who scream over the phone and swear at them. I'd call ya' right back to piss you off even more, too! You are powerless! Stop giving them the pleasure of making you miserable! Have fun with them! The more time you keep them on the phone is one less call they can make to get a paycheck! Most are paid on comission. OOPS, Baby just fell out of the highchair, be right back. And set the receiver down and go back to dateline hollywwod. Blow an air horn (WALMART) in the mouthpiece and say "sorry the Queen Marys Docking, gotta go!" Although I hate to see you miss an episode of "GOLDEN GIRLS" you have seen 40 times. See did I just tick you off! It's easy, it's fun! Try it you'll like it! Oh, and the chucklehead that thinks OBAMA!!!! is going to change the FTC and keep them from getting solicitation calls at all hours of the day and night! GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! I am sure he will have a plan for that, just like everything else! In fact I suspect a major announcement soon! Remember keep smiling!

And how does your solution keep auto-dialers from randomly dialing every possible phone number in the country?  How does it make us immune to the telemarketing/collections exposure our phone number used to have when it was someone else's phone number?  How does it protect us from the established business relationship exemption?

I'm not saying that your advice is incorrect, but insinuating that we're all dense doesn't make your point more valid.  Also, many of us keep our personal information private, we mail in the "opt-out" forms (which are a joke, so many legal loop-holes around them), we register on the DNC, we ask to be removed from call lists in every possible medium available to us, and yet...

We still get calls every day.

Use YOUR head and realize the problem is more complex than you assume it to be.

I think a number of people have hit on the truth -- not only is Do Not Call unenforced and relying on voluntary compliance by businesses (like much of the Bush laws are), but it is actually increasing the number of unwanted calls.  I suspect this is another one of those "sucker" hooks like the "unsubscribe" link in spam email.  it only verifies that there is a person receiving it and gives them a green light to pester you forever.

I do believe it may be kind of working for telemarketers, but if you do not let your credit card holders know, forget it, you will continue to get lots and lots of phone calls (again, it should NOT be this hard to get UNWANTED phone calls)...

OK, I have been getting phone calls from the MEDALLION group out of the Charlotte area for years (15 phone calls in 3 days), the latest phone number is 704-817-0524 - in the past, this the the North Carolina Special Olympics or the NC Fraternal Order of Police - look online like I did - very little money goes towards any organizations.  Complete harassment that nobody can protect you against, unless you change your phone number every year.  Any suggestions to shut down this slime would be appreciated.

Then DO NOT CALL the house - generally after 8PM when the kids go to bed.  I am on the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY....does that not mean anything???????????  I will NEVER give out info, just do not call me 15 times in 3 days,,, that is harassment...does not matter if you tell them not to call you.   Not a matter of info, a matter of calling all times a day to mess with you..

I am interested in writing a letter to the CEO of WaMu with complaints of these multiple calls.  If you like this idea, please email me at jeanines610@gmail.com, for I know just one voice cannot be heard.  I honestly snickered when I saw them on the news last night about losing a lot of money this quarter.  This harassment is ridiculous.

Not sure who here is being harrassed by WaMu, but I was amazed, that with every extension I had typed into google, there were at least 20 complaints from different people.

I signed on the National Do Not Call Registry on June 4th, which goes into effect 31 days after registering.  They are still calling me, which means I have 28 complaints that can be official.

If you can give me some advice on how to approach this matter, anything will be helpful.  I don't want to wait around for the FTC's response, I want something done now-

    Thank you.

You may not can stop them, but you should be able to slow down the TM calls.  First, pay attention to caller ID.  If it's a number that is obviously a TM, don't answer.  Once you answer, their computers record that your number is a good, working number and you just invite more and more solicitation calls as some companies just call and hang up to find this out, then sell your number to multiple TM's.  If you choose to answer, grab your airhorn, scream into the phone, lay it down by a loud radio or TV, make disgusting sounds into it, speak a make believe language, do something to irritate them as much as they irritate you.  I know it sounds childish, but look who we're dealing with.  It has actually worked at my house...unlike the DNC list (which has nothing to do with the President, good grief).
