Politicians' Automated Calls Possibly to Get Do-Not-Call Status

As the presidential primary season heats up, voters' voice-mail boxes are starting to fill up with the usual batch of message-intense, pre-recorded calls pulling for a candidate, bashing another, or singling out an election issue.

But all that could be put to a halt if a few lawmakers get their way, giving such calls a similar status as the marketing calls forbidden in the widely popular do-not-call registry, reports CQpolitics.com.

If I want to know about them I will go find out for my self the ones that aggravate me Is the first ones I take off my list to VOTE for..I am scared that one of my family memebers might need help and they can not get me because of this..

At least in my mind, Do Not Call means exactly that, I wish they would get rid of all the loopholes, period! It's my phone, I pay the bill for it, and it is my absolute right to not be bombarded with junk calls, period!

    I hate these messages!
The most calls are from Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, or Osama... Obama.
I AM NOT VOTING FOR THEM!! They should stop doing that and respect my right not to received calls.
I wonder if they can be sued...

To Me too, in some states, pre-recorded calls from political candidates are legally prohibited, with both criminal and civil penalties. Ron Paul's campaign has been notified of that fact, but still persists in this nuisance. Do you want to vote for someone who knowingly violates a law designed to protect the public? Let them know your feelings.

I want on the "Do not call list" for politicians and for non-profits.  I will give to charities, but not when they call me on the phone.

What a shock, the government created a law with a loophole built in for their own gain.

If we ever get a Do-Not-Call list that includes political ads, I'll be the first on the list

You [***] about politicians, but don't want anything to do with the process.

You vote for people without knowing where they stand on the issues and if they dare contact you to let you know, you [***] about that to.

So as you become less and less involved in the process, "opting out" if you will, who gets more and more involved? The special interests because that is their job.

Keep bitching America, it is what we do best.

You're an idiot for that stupid [***] batshit comment. These people put themselves out there and their families through hell because of their love for what this country could be, only to have imbeciles such as yourself demean them to justify your own existence.

    I can educate myself
I don't need these people calling me to become educated or become involvede These talking heads are all over CNN, the newspaper, and the Internet. Some of us actually do our *own* research to figure out what is behind the spin. Why do I need more one-sided poltical bs phone calls to "help" me figure out who to vote for? Never mind that they've usually got the completely WRONG person, like the people who call me about "defense of marriage." Where do they do their research?

1 hour a day should be set aside for all these unwanted calls  if a call is made outside this time period the caller should pay a fee  $500.00 a call might cut down on the junk calls.

Spoken like a true couch potato.

You seem to spew advice without thinking about what's coming out first.

There are plenty of well educated Americans who are very up on the issues of all the politicians and can make an informed decision based on knowledge other than a brief phone call saying "please vote for me on this next election." Which informs you of nothing more on thier personal views and issues it is just an annoyance. However, thank you for letting us know what GREAT things we Americans are and that you in fact are one of us.

That fact alone makes me feel just warm and fuzzy!!! And just what is your telemarketer name so I'll recognize you when you next call my home?
