A phone call in the early morning hours claiming there is a problem with your credit union account is a scam, police said.
Cindy Kozerow, a crime prevention specialist for the Lynchburg Police Department, received a call shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday. The call was a prerecorded message claiming their was a problem with her Beacon Credit Union account and that she needed to visit a website and enter in information.
The phone number that showed up on Kozerow’s caller ID came back to the Western Ways store on U.S. 221. The call didn’t originate from there nor did is originate from Beacon Credit Union, she said.
