    i've been getting them too.
i think it's a network issue with AT&T. But don't bother calling them because they don't show up on their systems.  They started with me after i got an MMS that couldn't be properly viewed.  A rep thought that these messages might be the network trying to force this info through, and b/c the info is corrupted, they come in as these random texts.  but with all that said she couldn't help me!!!!!!

it's the most mysterious and ANNOYING thing ever!!

    TIP:

I have responded to the text with "Stop" and "Block", this seems to slow them.  i was getting them every 15 minutes.

Also AT&T has a website that you can create a blocked list.
    http://mynumbers.wireless.att.com

It hasn't stopped them, but i think it's slowed down the frequency.

    hope this helps.

I'm getting them also. Could you please tell what phones are you using? Are you using a smart phone? Nokia S60 (Symbian), iPhone, Android ...?

att rep believes it has something to do with there Instant Messenger gateway. they put in some request to have a network tech manually stop it, but it could take 72 hrs, so here's hoping. i was also told that smart limits for $4 a month will also allow that number to be blocked. they have a 2 month free trial.

I am also getting these text messages. Contacted AT&T support and they told me to reply with the word STOP to one of the messages. I did but it didn't stop them.

    STOP doesn't work.
We can't block them because of the way the network is interpreting the number.  my phone tries to format it like a usual number "1 111 487 000". but that is short a digit. and it isn't coming from "111 148 7000".  the reps that ive spoken to don't even have the number showing up on my text log. they're as confused as i am.

i've seen posts about Yahoo messaging. i don't use that service.  I do have AIM, but am not logged onto it on my phone or on my computer.

    i'm using a Nokia E71x. S60.

from 8/22 - 8/26 i've received 78 of these things.  and i think i deleted some out of frustration at one point.

I ghave this too, just started the other day.  The rep told me to try blocking the messager on their messaging preferences website.  Then they recommended I sign up for the do not call registry.  I also emailed back "stop"

still getting t hem, but it hasn't been very long yet.  The ATT rep said it might be a spanner sending email to my phone as a text message.

I do NOT have unlimited texting.

    The Answer:

this is a media net "quick reach" problem, generated by ATT.  The good news is that it doesn't charge you, and wont eat up your text message limit.  The bad news -- it's still annoying!  If you call ATT for help on this, don't let them talk you into a different soluntion/reason -- replying with "stop" or "block" does not work.  Nor does listing the number on the messaging preferences-block website.  Nor does listing your number on a Do Not Call registry.  And don't waste your money by signing up for the call block service.

The ATT tech should be able to fix the problem for you, right over the phone.

Just spoke with ATT.  They tried several times to fix problem.  The tech suggested that they stop all communications from ATT.  Unsure if it worked will let you guys know in an hour or so.

    > adding to the list "mymessages" doesn't work.

    > block, stop, cancel replies don't work.

    > adding to a Do Not Call list doesn't work.

    still no solutions.
    typical AT&T terrible service.

I had my SIM in a smartphone, and moved it to a conventional phone, that is when these messages started. Anyone with similar experience?
