You know what really pisses them off? When people don't answer the phone. If they can't speak to you, they can't scam you and that really pisses them off. If the number is obviously spoofed, like in this case, or if you don't recognize the number, just don't answer the call.
This number is obviosuly spoofed because no phone number or area code in the US or Canada begins with a 1. Just block and ignore their calls.

Called my cell, which annoys the hell out of me. Let it go to voicemail, but no message. Read about the number here, then blocked it. I hate scammers.

Please keep in mind that numbers here in the USA do not start with a one or zero.

In this situation, specifically the "100" part - the exchange number.
( Not the "1100" number as those four digits can be any number )

Interesting article about why numbers do not start with 1:

    http://www.artlebedev.com/mandership/91/

I'm old enough to remember when the only numbers you needed to dial were the last 4. I'm also old enough to remember hearing my parents calling someone and saying something like "Hillcrest 1234" to the operator. >.> <.< >.<

OBVIOUS spoofed number. The 202 area code is legit, but the 100 exchange is invalid, as is any with a "1" as the first digit.
Anyway, I immediately sent to VM, which they didn't leave because they are scammers and know they are breaking numerous federal laws.

Caller stated that I had received a $9,000 grant for bills. She wanted to verify my info, and had the wrong address. When I questioned her, she got snippy. I told her that I wasn't interested. She didn't understand why I was declining it. I told her that a US Federal Agency of any kind would not call, they would send info via postal service. She again got mad and said I can't believe you are giving up free money and hung up on me.

They continuously call me, they tried two different numbers. They didn't leave a voicemail, so I tried to call back and said I need to redial a working number. I answered finally, and some foreign lady was talking saying the US government wanted to load me $9000.00 in grants or something. (Why wouldn't the US have a fluent English speaking person ??). I told her to take my number off the list, I said it politely and the [***] hung up on me. PUT ON THE BLOCK LIST!!!!!!*********** scamming ass low lifes.

    Me boy
They say they are from u.s treasury, I've been randomly selected for a 9000 dollar grant which I don't have to pay back.   I ask,  "grant for what...just some free money because the government loves me so much?"   She says "that's correct sir". haha, I hope people aren't falling for this,  but sadly many probably are

    DIRTY INDIAN SCAMMER
Some dirty people who could barely speak English called from 2 variations of this same number yesterday and today. Today he claimed to be calling from the "U.S. Treasury Department of the United States"...... Neither could tell me the first ladies name or Hilary's husbands name....... LOL I told each caller i'd happily give them all my info if they could answer 1 simple question for me. They become very angry and irrate on the phone.

Obviously in a call center as you can hear many more in the background and almost smell the stench.

I get a call from this number at least 4 times a day. They never leave a message, and the one time I did answer and asked them why they keep calling me, they refused to answer and denied ever calling my number before even though I have the screenshots proving how often they call. They also refused to tell me who they even were unless I answered their questions first. Definitely a scam, and next time they call I'm going to threaten filling harassment charges!

Would you expect honesty from a number like this, or even an American on the other end? Nowhere in N. America does an area code or prefix begin with a 0 or 1, not to mention the area code 202 is a favorite for swindlers. Fishy looking numbers like this almost always come from overseas. This joker's after a live voice since it's doubtful there's a plan for an automatic response. If you can keep him from getting any kind of answer at all, you can maybe send him on his way. Don't bother arguing or threatening these clowns, either. They're calling because they're on the other side of the world, where they can get away with it.
