"Alex Smith"  (with a heavy south Asian accent ) is still at it in March 2014.    Alex is calling to report that the IRS has a case open and that we should call him back urgently.  He can keep waiting.  

I would love to see a late night host call this guy back...

i got call from same phone # ， they said same thing to me。

Just got this call 5 minutes ago...But when I started asking questions about the guy calling and his managers contact info and that I will report this..he hang up..Very annoying to get these type of calls..Since I see a lot of messages here, I'm wondering why they haven't caught this guy yet? Anyway, he is still in full operation.

Received a call claiming from Crime Investigation Dept.  When I asked for more info, they said it was from the IRS Crime Investigation Dept

Also had same call. From 202-239-6259. Told I was under criminal investigation. Obviously a scam.

I received a call from this guy today but let it roll to my answering machine.  I let it go until now and am glad I thought to research this number.  It does not make sense.  The IRS always sends letters, they don't call first.

It sounds like he is in room full of people and he has a very heavy accent.  Claims to be an IRS officer and he gave my husband's name and said he was investigation our Property.  Which did not make any sense either.

I got a call from the (202) 239-6259 number; and they left a voice mail. The 'person' (I use the term loosely) who could barely speak intelligible english stated he was with the IRS (the name he gave was 'Agent Brian Allen' and he was calling in regards to a 'warrant' filed against me and my physical property location (that's all, didn't have my address or any other identifying info); gave a warrant number; and a 'hotline number to his dept.' which was (202) 239-6259.

(And in the background there was PLENTY of ambient call center noise with others making phone calls) - thus I figured it was BS as I've never had IRS issues; looked the number up on the internet and found MULTIPLE sites indicating this is indeed a phishing scam.

After reading your comment, I feel soooo relieved that words can not express my ANGER towards these scammers. Is there anyway I could report them? Apparently, they said I owe $22,000 & that I will get arrested if I don't have this amount due. I asked them "why?" & they ended the phone call. Uhhhh, suspicious much?

Please alert this a huge scam and they need to leave this country and go back to India!!!!

I received a call from 2022396652. initially he said he is from roy cage ivestigation team I have warrent letter. I surprised and I started questioning him he just hung up. I called back and got the same person. I said to him I think this is a fraud call then he started to cusrse me in using very bad " F" words. I could n't hear and I just hung up. is there anyway to find out them and punish them?  

This guy ripped my mother off yesterday by saying he was a IRS agent and she had a warrant if I catch this dumb Indian I will personally take his life we should drop a bomb on those country's and move on with life.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for this.

The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone. The scammers use voice over IP lines (e.g. magicjack (Ymax corporation)). This is always against these companys' terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact if you yourself are not a customer. Therefore, report it also to your local law enforcement agency. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Islamabad or New Delhi. If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to demand decisive action from the FBI, the IRS and other federal agencies against organized crime directed against American citizens from abroad.

As widely reported by local and national media all across the United States and warned about by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (see http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm) a tidal wave of fraud using Internet phones has hit the United States. Millions of dollars already have been stolen by criminals impersonating federal officers while hiding in countries like India and Pakistan, where most of the calls originate. There seems to be no end of it in sight.

I have personally been targeted by these scammers but it is the most vulnerable among us that I am concerned about primarily. The scheme is specifically singling out those that can least defend themselves against these crimes, in particular the elderly. I am also worried that given the origin of these gangsters, the money stolen from US citizens may be used for financing of terrorism or other activities directed against the national interests of the United States. But in spite of this clear and present danger to our country and its citizens I have seen no action worth mentioning by the FBI, the IRS or other federal agencies so far.

As a member of Congress overseeing the law enforcement agencies tasked with fighting fraud and ensuring national security, I implore you to make sure that they act on these threats and are given all the necessary resources to target these criminals in cooperation with foreign law enforcement.
