This is a scam that I've heard about.  IRS telling you that you will be arrested if you don't call within 24 hours.  SCAM.

A Sgt Mike Johnson called from this number stating that I owed money to the IRS from 2005 -  2014 in the amount of $1786.00 & I needed to pay it today (12/8/2016). He stated that an audit had been done by the IRS & I still owed money. He had a previous address. I asked him several questions & finally told him I was not paying him anything. He hung up. But, I rec'd a 2nd call about an hour later which I did not answer. The IRS does not make calls. They don't do audits without contacting you (which they had not done). And they don't file law suits against people (Mr. Johnson also told me this). The man was a foreigner because he could barely speak English! Remember to take notes & ask questions; don't give them any information at all as they could drain your bank accounts or charge up your credit card. Be safe. God bless.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.  IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government.     Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes.  Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks or Itunes cards or similar for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.   All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

I keep getting calls from this number on a daily basis. I never called them back because I felt it was a scam to start with and now after reading what others have written about this number, I now know for sure it's a scam. People like those that makes these calls need to get a life and leave ours alone.

I keep receiving calls from 202-241-0131 about receiving a loan that I won't have to pay back and then they left me a message another time telling me I had 24 hours to call back or they would turn me over to criminal investigations.  How do I stop these morons?

I am faculty in a Florida Special Needs Dental Clinic.  I just received a call from the same phone number.  The caller left a garbled message almost identical to the above incidents.  I realized by the way the message was left for me that ir was not coming from the federal government.  I googled the phone number, and was happy to see that I wasn't the only person to have received such a call. People, listen to your reasoning instinct, and don't feel guilty for something you didn't do.

They called my place of employment and knew to ask for me.  He said they were from the Department of Treasury, Office of Inspector General.  He said they wanted to hear from me before they decided to prosecute.  None of it made any sense. He barely spoke English, and had great difficulty saying "Office of Inspector General."
