This number was used for the DEA Special Agent Scam to extort money

If you think the DEA would call you about an investigation, you're an idiot.  If they have evidence to take you to court, you'd be in hand cuffs.

I have repeatedly called this [***] back to tell him I'm with the American Anti-Scam Task Force (you know, something that doesn't exist) and that I have an investigation against his group pending and if he wants out he can send us $15000.

Same thing as the others. Guy calls pretending to be an agent from the DEA. They seized a shipment of illegal drugs and my name was on one of the packages. He'd like to ask a few questions and get this cleared up.

I've bought diet pills online before and I'm guessing it's the pharmaceutical company trying to get me to buy my shipment of pills. Though this is just a guess.

I was scammed by a person using this number posing as a DEA agent. He used the name Mark Thomas and gave credentials from the Distric 97 branch in Washington DC. Said that my name was on a case that involved phony Internet Pharmacy/Drug trafficing. That I had a pakage that was picked up in Dominican Republic Customs Department addressed to me. I could be assoiciated and had the choice of either going through the court proceeding to encarcerate the group that set up the company or paying the Customs fine and assisting the DA. Fact of the matter is that I have purchased prescription meds in the past and was concerned. They are on the east coast and me on west, don't have the time or money for that mess. In retrospect I am an idiot because all I had to do was google this number to see that it had been used for this purpose on others. Be careful!!

I got a call from this dumbass last night. He left a voicemail which I saved. He called back this morning and I went along with it for about 2 minutes (he even said "Why didnt you call me back?" in a stern voice). Then I asked him what his ID badge number was and he had a wrong address. Then he got pissed and said get ready for a knock on my door and hung up.

I called this [***] back all day as often as I could...lol. I prob called about 20 times and he wouldnt answer. Finally he answered and was screaming at me "#*$&# you white boy! Quit calling my phone!" hahaha...I was right back at him and said SUCKS DOESNT IT?

LOSER!

This "Mark Thomas" just called.  He did not sound like a DEA official, he sounded like a low-level telemarketer.  So I googled the number and found this site.  Thanks, Internet!

Absolutely, this is a scam.  do not be stupid enough to pay any money to the DEA via Western Union

Yes BTW the caller did say he was from the DEA and he used the name Mark Thomas.  I suggest that if you get a call from this number that you tell him you want $1000 Western Unioned to YOU.  Ask for his badge #, shake him up,  THE JIG IS UP.

Same deal - Mark Thomas from the DEA calls about mail order drugs, busting the company, my name is in their records, call him back.  I will now - to tell him I'm reporting him to the FCC for fraud!  Adding my thanks to this thread!

DEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by
DEA Special Agent Impersonators
The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme.

The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies.  The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine.  In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas.  If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property.  Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.

Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law.  The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment.

The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet.  It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met.  And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA.  By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law.  In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.

Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.

I was called buy this guy Mark Thomas this morning.  I figured it was a scam from the beginning, but went along with him for a while.  When I asked for his badge #, he got all upset.  I also told him he was being recorded and then he really blew it.  Said I would be receiving a knock on my door any time now.  I told him I think I hear someone knocking right now and hung up.  

Don't get taken in by this scam!!!!

I just had the same Mark Thomas call me —left a message! Stating he was from the DEA and needed me to answer questions....

Got a call from Mark Thomas this AM.  Because I have ordered meds in the past off the internet his call freaked me out some until I Googled his # and found this site.

I got a call from this number and the guy sounded like a nutcase. Not professional at all. As I was researching what the laws are on ordering through an online pharmacy, a live chat window popped up from a local law firm, saying that they specialized in this type of case. Like an idiot, I gave them a $1,500 retainer and naturally never heard back. The 202-241-5300 number is for the local office of the check fraud department in Washington DC. NOT the DEA.

This happened to me in May.  I called the local DEA office and was told that "I happen to be the Duty Officer today, and if someone were going to arrest you, it'd be me -- and I've never heard of you."  He also told me that the "case number" was bogus and that he could not find "Mark Thomas" in the DEA database.  But they had me within five minutes of sending almost $2,000 to "the manager of our Customs Office in the Dominican Republic" until I decided to call local law enforcement.

And oh, I forgot to mention that they called again today.  I told the guy I wasn't falling for his scam and asked how he could sleep at night.  He made all kinds of threats until I finally hung up on him.  They just don't give up!
