This person.. With a strong indian accent called saying that the IRS is trying to get their monies from me. I have no reason to believe that There is any problem with my income taxes. yesterday, the same person called from 8662064720 saying his name is officer Lynch.

Same exact scenario as above.  Call yesterday from Lynch and call today regarding IRS -- Scammer

Male, thick Indian accent called and left a message claiming to be Officer Something, not even possible to make out the name he's providing.  Informed me that he is with the Tax Crime Investigation Department of the IRS and that they have decided to pursue action against me for some reason -- again, accent is so thick I don't know what my "crime" is alleged to be.  Saved the voice mail, will not be calling back.

Got the same call, I believe.  Indian guy claiming I am being sued by the IRS, left that message with my partner.  I called back to  more detail so I can file a report. Other calls in the background.   He said I owed a bit less than $2,000 for back taxes, and I must pay by cash bond at my local Big Y.   Okay, so he then said to call him at this number when I get to the parking lot, so he can tell me exactly the type of bond to get. Bring photo ID, he said.

He gave me an hour to do so.  Said "you do have that kind of cash available, correct?"    I will report this on the IRS website. Sad that people would believe this very obvious scam, but I guess it does happen.  Thanks for posting.

His number was 202-241-5569.  Curious to know if you see the same.  did a reverse lookup and it's a landline in DC Indian name attached.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). We were contacted by 202-241-5569 and told the IRS was going to put a lein on OUR house if OUR FATHER didn't pay back taxes owed because my husband is Jr.

I received a phone message on my answering machine on 10/10/14 from a man with a Turkish or Indian accent, who claimed to be Officer Mike Brown of the IRS.  He said it was in my best interest to call him back, since I owed the IRS money due to fraud on my part.  He obviously was in a "boiler room" type call center, and someone was coaching him on what to say.  A ridiculous type of scam.  I can't imagine anyone falling for such a lame scheme to defraud people of their money..

Just received the same call.  Call ID said "DC" with the number 202-241-5599.  I did not answer.  The guy left a voicemail and had a very strong Indian accent.  I had to listen to the voicemial numerous times before I could understand.  Here is the story I got... "this message is for... (he said my name after a long pause, I think he was looking on the list) my name is Officer Robin Jackson calling you from the tax claim investigation you need to also IRS Internal Revenue Service and the reason behind this call is to inform you that the IRS has been decided to forcefully recover the tax amount outstanding under your (long pause) for it will be in your best interest to call me back as soon as you can (incomprehensible muttering) in order to resolve this critical situation my direct line number is 202-241-5569."

Total BS.

Just received the  call.  Call ID said "Wahington" with the number 202-241-5599.  I  not answer.  The guy left a voice-mail and had a very strong accent.  I had to listen to the voice-mail three  times before I could understand.  I did return there call after long conversation he ask me to go Government bail bond at
1603 North Nova Road Daytona Beach and Pay $3289.00 and then go to local IRS office , IRS officer will give you all the documents And Paper work to finish, And ask me to stay on phone when I am going there . I said you are stupid enough person which one i do not like because i am on land line, my name is Officer Robin Jackson and in the conversation he change his name to Anthony Clark. I call  Law Office,
then call my CPA and cpa office representive told me that IRS never Call you they write You.
what A RELIEF.

Same scenario. Looks like they are looking to steal your identity. Don't call back.

Got the same call.  The big tip-off was when he ended the message-from "the IRS"-with "May God help you!"

Received 2 calls on my Cell Phone from 202-241-5569 --8:15 A.M and 12:42 P.M. on 11/13/2014.   Did not answer either one.   The 2nd one left a message -- in thick accent asking for someone other than me -- could not make out name -- speaking of debt owed to the IRS and wanting me to call back.

Automated IRS Scam, apparently still running it. Just got the call a few minutes ago.

Just got the call today too. I've had a ball, apparently they don't like it when you auto dial them 200x during the period of one hour.

The solution, just call these guys back over and over until they have to switch numbers. When they do, repeat the procedure until they run out of numbers.

Hint: Only call back the number they tell you to call. Outgoing calls can have the caller ID spoofed.

Automated message left saying they were from the IRS and that a lawsuit was bring brought against me . Said to call back immediately at the phone number to resolve monies owed. The IRS does not call and leave threatening messages. SCAMMER.

Complete BS.  Left a computer-generated voicemail stating that the IRS had filed a case against me.  I could tell it was false - plus the IRS typically communicates via mail.  I tried to call them back just to grill them a little - get an IRS Case ID, etc.  The voice on the voicemail recording was of Indian-descent, I think.  And their mailbox was full.

They left me a voicemail saying the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me and to call immediately. No thanks. Definitely a scam

Caller ID shows location as Washington, DC. I got a robo-voice, computer generated for sure,  telling me to call this number back, and repeated it twice. Other posts indicate a scam, and I agree. Block and delete.
