- pregnant mother shocked people do this| 1 replyThis number called my home from Washington it said, I could barely understand his accent, Said his name was Michael Johnson and he was a federal officer saying there was a federal investigation on my social security number and I needed to call back before legal action started I called back 6 times he hung up on my husband, and the phone just cut off half the time. I believe this is a scam it has to be I have done nothing to have an investigation so be careful please!
- tammy edwardsGot a very disturbing call from this number
- Caller: federal crime unit
- Just a guy| 2 repliesHe asked for me by name. I asked who was calling. He said "Fat World Crime Investigation Department". He had to say it 5 or 6 times before I realized what he was saying. But I repeated it back to him and he verified that that was what he said I told him I had no idea who he was and didn't want to talk to him. At that point he said "Ok, prepare to be arrested."
It was almost comical.- Caller: Check Unit (caller-id)
- man replies to Just a guyHey what happened. After that?
- man replies to Just a guyHe call me too
- Chewbacca-the-WookieI'm beginning to realize that C&D letters and Validation Requests are a waste of time and postage on these scumbags. It might make them realize that you have no intention of paying an unsubstantiated debt, but they'll just keep passing your contact info around (and that's ALL they have), and at $7 a pop for a certified letter, you're probably throwing your money down the drain for clowns who don't give a dang. Don't get me wrong....I think they are entirely effective when you're dealing with a LEGITIMATE creditor, but these people (and I use that term loosely) are already breaking the law, so why are they going to give any regard to the legal process (unless, of course, they think THEIR [***] are on the line)?
So I have a new plan...let me know what ya think:
I've put my state AG's office into my phone contacts. Whenever any of these yahoo's calls, I'll say "wow, that sounds serious....listen, can you hang on a minute?". I'll then dial the AG's number and put them on conference. Sure, it picks up with a recording, but as soon as they hear "you have reached the offices of the Attorney General for the state of xxxx", they'll drop the call. If they're stupid enough to stay on the line and ask what the hell you're doing, just say "oh, I just want to double-check the information you gave me (you know....that stuff about being arrested, served, etc) and see if it's accurate....thank you for your patience....we should get this sorted out pretty quickly". They'll be gone before you finish your sentence, and if they aren't, then they TRULY deserve the Darwin award! - DustinPerson called me that I could barley understand, said he was with some company (couldn't make out the name) then told me he was with the IRS.

- Erika| 1 replySomething to do with IRS, tax fraud, arrest, some deal. Non-American accent, bad grammar. Sounded like Arabic person who is still learning English and needs to go pee or poo badly. The background noise and 'allah hooooo akbar' calls made understanding this dude even more difficult. I told him to quit the scam, go to pee or poo, do his mandatory Muslim prayer. Then hung up.
- Caller: Some scam
- Kelly| 2 repliesThey called me, googled the number before I answered the phone. I told him he had the wrong number, and he said "Okay baby, have a good day babyyyyyyyyyy..." totally unprofessional.

- RexIRS replies to ErikaThis is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm
As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf).
